As the above posters have mentioned, more information will be required to be able to help you more adequately.
However, from what you have provided us with, I can add the following:
- It is not usual for a stroke patient to have
both his right and left leg to be weakened.
This is because, our limbs are controlled by the opposite sides of the brain. So, if the stroke is on the right side of the brain - then the left arm and leg will be affected.
If the stroke is on the left side of the brain, then the right arm and leg will be affected (in general terms).
For both lower limbs to be paralysed, this would indicate that the problem is likely located in the spine.
Allah knows best.
- If this patient has indeed suffered a stroke (either due to a clot in the brain, or a bleed), then he/ she will need a few different types of medications, to in shaa Allah, improve his weakness as well as, to control the risk factors that led to him having a stroke in the first place.
Usually these medications will consist of:
- Blood pressure lowering pills (often, the patient will need more than one agent to control his blood pressure)
- A cholesterol lowering tablet (if the stroke was due to a clot in the brain, this will in shaa Allah help to break down the 'plaques' in the vessel walls, that cause 'blockages' of blood flow)
- An 'anti-platelet' agent - such as Aspirin (if the stroke was due to a clot in the brain)
- Tablets to control any other conditions - e.g diabetes
In view of the above, it would be best to continue the medications as prescribed by the doctor.
Have trust that the doctor is working in the best interest of the patient (and that in shaa Allah, he knew what he was doing :P ).
You have asked if any of these medications will have a 'bad impact' on the patient.
Akhee, as with all forms of medications, there are always some 'potential' side effects - that some (not all) patients can experience.
Even simple paracetamol carries some 'adverse effects'.
When deciding to use any medication, one considers if the benefit of that drug out-weighs its (potential) harms.
In the case where someone has already sustained a stroke, we wish to in shaa Allah, improve the weakness that has resulted, and importantly prevent another stroke from occurring (for which such patients remain at very high risk).
In view of this, the benefits of the medications far exceed the (potential) side effects.
It would be a good idea to speak to the doctor at the next consult - and ask him to explain what each medication has been prescribed for, and how it should be taken.
The family members (and the patient, if possible) should write down the names of these tablets, and learn them......so that they are aware of what medications are being consumed.
