BismiAllah ar Rahman ar Raheem,

Premise: the according to “ the author of” the Gospel “later attributed to” Mark , whomever Joseph of Arimathea took of the “cross”, DID NOT, by Jewish reckoning fulfill the “sign of Jonas” as stated by “the authors of” the Gospels “later attributed to” Matthew and Luke.

Background: sign of Jonah

Matthew 12: The Sign of Jonah
38 Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”
39 He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

The Demand for a Sign
Matthew 16: 1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a] 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

Luke 28: The Sign of Jonah
29 As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom; and now something greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and now something greater than Jonah is here.

background: a day (Jewish reckoning)

The Beginning
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

So, according to the authors of the Gospels, later attributed to Matthew and Luke, Jesus emphatically stated that the ONLY sign that the “wicked generation” would get would be that he would be “in the hearth of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights.”

99% of Christians today claim that those “3 days” (because they ignore the bits about the nights) are Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
So, let us see what the author of the Gospel, later attributed to Mark, has to say about this:

Mark 15:42-47 New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb
42 Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.
It is with verse 42 that our interest lays. Here are 20 translations:

All but 3, tell us that it was already evening. Now according to Jewish reckoning, the evening, itself, already signifies a new day, to wit, Friday evening IS Saturday!

A glimpse of a Greek English translation states: “And already evening having arrived”

Thus, if we take “the author of Mark” at his word, whoever was buried by Joseph of Arimathea spent a total of ZERO HOURS of Friday in the tomb! The MOST that one could then deduce is that whomever was buried in the tomb, was there for Saturday and MAYBE part of Sunday.
Now, “Mark” is considered to be the earliest Gospel written, y the majority of Biblical scholars, and that it was written sometime between 65 CE and 75 CE. Thus, according to the earliest known “Gospel”, whoever Joseph of Arimathea placed in his tomb DID NOT fulfill the sign of Jonah.
