I'm not Bengali but if you use the search option on forums, you can see if anyone typed in Bengali as a language they speak or wish to learn about. I found a couple of people...

slamicboard.com/introduce-yourself/134317794-salam-all-muslim-brother.html
slamicboard.com/introduce-yourself/134317683-illustrated-islamic-law-acts-worship.html

If I knew Bangali only, I would sure like a section for me and other people who speak my langauge on a Islamic forum like this. But I only know English and I see there's already a section for that... Eh.

Support.

yes , Sylheti language is totally different from pure Bangla . U may say that Sylheti is one of the hard dialect / languages to understand in Bangladesh .

So sis , u want to learn Bangla or Sylheti ?

Linguistically speaking the Bengali language itself is the official language of Bangladesh and is the main standard and official language of communication. It is utilised in both spoken and written forms.
Sylheti on the other hand is a distinct variant of the Bengali language and is exclusively spoken by the people who hail from the Sylhet district. It is a primarily in colloquial form and is only utilised for speaking purposes only. There is no written format to Sylheti.Native speakers of Sylheti have the advantage of being able to understand the official Bengali.Whereas non sylheti speakers may find it rather difficult to decipher the Sylheti dialect.

haha it reminds me of a funny incident . Once my friend was in a microbus with my mom and anuties . Later mom told me I did not nocite ur friend was there as I was talking to ur aunites . Did she follow our conversation ? We might talked about her niece who was also with her .

So , I called my friend and she told me , I tried hard to understand what they were talking about but could not understand a word ;D

a funny joke about Sylheti people.

Few Sylheti people in UK were in court and they asked for interpretor . Judge became angry and asked them how come they live in UK without knowing English ? He told them they must learn English.

They decided to hire a Brit lady in office ; so that they can learn English from her . After few months , not a single Sylheti people learnt English but Brit lady now can speak Sylheti fluently. :D

Hmmm... Do you speak Dhaka Bangla? The Sylhetis say what I've written "Sasi" "masi/masee" (insect; fly)

Well, the Sylhetis I know say those words, it's mainly Dhakai residents who say "chachi' "machi"

I remember there being a Bangla thread back in '05/'06, but a moderator closed it.

If members are teaching Bangla to others as in words, sentences and such then I think it won't be a problem to open a section but as my dear Muslim Woman has written, there needs to be enough members of that background to make a section.

:ia: if members are wanting this then it may happen

my teacher recites the most beautiful heart touching poetry in bengali during dhikr sessions. softens the heart.

also there is a book of my teachers experiences with the poor world whuch is unseen by us spoiled people... and fthe language melts the heart as do the incidents of course

i remember once i was with a group of bengali boys in college and i said

"ami ayram" (ill be back)

and they all looked at each other then started chanting "ram ram ram ram" and laughing.

lol they say ami ayar.

My dear Muslim Woman's Bangla is proper Sylheti, I think. But I think she hails from Dhaka, so she will know the proper version of Dhaka & Sylhet Bangla

Yeah its been pretty bad :s I won't go to work again I miss my kido's already :(

Ameen

Buh here's what I learnt so far

Sasi = aunt on fathers side that is Chachi in Urdu

Bala aso nai =how are you

Kita uffre= what's up (the literal sense)

Ki cholche = what's up proper Bengali

Ayram and ayar = I'm coming

N that makes me an A grade student doesn't it :)

Would love to learn more if anyone willing to teach this annoying lil nemo.:p

Oh I forgot 1

Kita khoss =what are u saying (remember not to say it in front of elder ppl otherwise you'll get five fingers across ur face)

Very, very, very good. Excellent.

You missed out;

Formal; Afne kitha khoy ray = what are you saying?

Formal; Ayram = coming

Informal; Ayar = coming

Formal; Afne kitha khorray = what are you doing?

Informal; Kitha khorreh = what are you doing?

How old are you? = Afnar boish khur thur (formal) Tumar boish khur thur (informal)

Where do you live? = Afne khanur roin / thakhoin (formal) Tumi khanu thakhur / row (the verb 'row'; same pronunciation) (informal)

And that's enough, others may want to impart proper Bangla upon y'all

:D

It's all well and good reading the interpretations and whatnot but it's another matter speaking it and making sure it is said correctly! Lol, make sure y'all let your Bangla-speaking friends test you out on these :)

^ Ami Fagol

What's your name: Afnar Naam kita? - for somebody older than you. If younger you can say Tumaar I think.

How is your health: Afnar Shorir Bala Ni? - ok to be honest I made that up from the bits and pieces I've heard, I might be wrong

I'm hungry: Amarr Bhuk Lagerr

I thought we had a Bengali section.. but haven't seen it in a while, or maybe it was a thread?
I speak Sylheti, due to the majority of the Bengali's in this city speaking Sylheti, but back in my home city, the family speak Shuddho.. I just have to remember which dialect to switch between dependent on the relative I'm speaking to.
I can understand and used to be able to hold fluent conversations in Shuddho, but have been out of practice for a while now..
I also end up mixing Urdu with my Bangla and English.. Speaking Binglish..:D:D
