we must be brave as we go through life. It hands us all such terrible cards but we've to deal with the cards we're dealt.. patience as the sister said is the key to salvation.

:salam: brother,

I am sorry to hear of this difficult times that you are facing.

You have already experienced a lot of health-related issues in your life, and you should know that it is only normal, that every now and then to feel in this manner.

However, when you do find yourself feeling down and depressed, reflect on the following:

1. Allah (subhanawataála) tests us all in different ways. There is not a person who can say that he/ she has led a perfect, trial-free life.

"Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?"(Quran 29:2)

When Allah Taa'la loves a person, He puts them to trial.
Think about those who we know were most beloved to Allah from all of creation - the messengers (peace be upon them), the sahaba (ra)......and the MOST beloved to Allah, Muhammed (sallalahu alaihi wasalam), who was tried in the most difficult ways from all of mankind.

One may say, that if Allah loved these groups of people, why did they experience such great difficulties in their lives?
Its because:

“The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allaah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2396) and Ibn Maajah (4031); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi

2. Remind yourself that despite the difficulties that you are experiencing, there is someone who is experiencing even greater.

So, for example:
Allah has tested you by means of kidney failure at a very young age.
And in His mercy, He had provided you with the opportunity to have a kidney transplant that has been functioning for the last 10 years.

Wallahi, here in Africa, the vast majority of people do not have the opportunity of receiving a transplant, and spend many years on dialysis.
Even those who are on dialysis are still more fortunate..... than those who dont even have the means of receiving this treatment.
Kidney transplants and dialysis are expensive means of treatment - so think about all those thousands of people who never receive this due to lack of resources.

Also consider those who have more serious health conditions:
e.g. A few weeks ago I met a young lady in her early 20s who has the following: AIDS, disseminated TB, an over-active thyroid, end-stage liver failure (which causes her body to swell up).
Her many, many trials that she is facing is different from yours. Do you know why?
Because Allah Taa'la has blessed you with IMAAN, and not for her (May Allah grant her hidayat as well. Ameen).
So, your trials are a means of elevating your status in the Hereafter, if borne with patience (in shaa Allah), while for many others, they do not even have this to look forward to.

3. Keep at the fore-front of your thoughts, the reason for our existence (the worship of Allah) and where we are heading to (Al-Aakhirah - our true, final and ETERNAL abode).
I think that the biggest regret that many of us will experience when we do leave this world is that:
We forgot how absolutely insignificant this life is in comparison to a life that will exist for forever.....and ever......and ever.

Many of us have made this life that we KNOW will end - as our priority.
We forget that this life is a just a 'bridge'. And no traveller makes their bridge a home.

So, keep focussed in shaa Allah

This urdu nasheed (with translation) is a good reminder for us:

And finally, I hope the following booklet by the late Moulana Yunus Patel (ra) called Tafweez: The Cure to Depression, will help you as it has for so many others.
May Allah (subhanawataála) grant Moulana the highest abode in Jannah. Ameen.

You are in our thoughts and duaa's, dear brother, along with the rest of the ummah.

Please keep us informed as to how you are doing in shaa Allah.

few lines from an article :

Rewards for Sickness

One should not look to sickness as a gloomy episode, but should remember the great good in it. It is one form of affliction with which Allah (SWT) tests His servants, giving them a chance to acquire rewards, as was explained above, as is further emphasized below.

Removal of Sins and Elevation in Ranks

Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "Whenever a Muslim is afflicted by harm from sickness or other matters, Allah will drop his sins because of that, like a tree drops its leaves."
[Bukhari and Muslim]

Abu Saeed al-Khudree (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "A Muslim is not afflicted by hardship, sickness, sadness, worry, harm, or depression - even if pricked by a thorn, but Allah expiates his sins because of that." [Bukhari and Muslim]

Aishah (RA) narrated that once some pain afflicted the Prophet (SAW) causing him to suffer and turn about in his bed. she said: "Had one of us done this, you would have blamed him." He (SAW) replied: " An ailment is intensified for the righteous. whenever a believer is afflicted by a hardship, whether it is a thorn or more, a sin is taken off from him because of it, and he is elevated by one rank (in Jannah). " [Ahmad]

...
Reason for the Reward

Atta Bin Rabaah reported that Ibn Abbaas (RA) told him, "Do you want to see a woman from the people of Jannah (paradise)?"
He said "Yes".
He said: " It is this black woman.
She had came to the Prophet (SAW) saying, " I have (epileptic) seizures, and I get exposed, so supplicate to Allah for me."
He (SAW) said: " If you wish, be patient and you will attain Jannah; or if you wish, I will ask Allah to cure you."
She replied, " I will be patient ! But my body gets exposed (because of the fall), so supplicate to Allah for me that I do not become exposed." and he (SAW) did." [Bukhari and Muslim]

The scholars have differed in opinion as to whether a sick person will be rewarded for the sickness itself or for being patient during it. the correct opinion is that if he is patient and submits to Allah's will, as in the above hadith, he would be rewarded for both the submission and the sickness, otherwise, he would not be rewarded at all; because he resented Allah's decree. This is what should be understood from Ibn hajar al-Asqalaanees words: "The authentic hadeeths are clear in that the rewards are recorded once affliction strikes a Muslim. As for patience and acceptance, they are virtues for which a person may get additional rewards over those for the affliction." 'Abdullah Bin 'Amr reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "If a Muslim is pricked by (as little as) a thorn in the worldly life, and he seeks its reward from Allah, some of his sins will be removed, because of it, on the Day of Judgement."[ Bukhari ]

"True believers are only those whose hearts are filled with awe whenever God is mentioned, and whose faith is strengthened whenever His revelations are recited to them. In their Lord do they place their trust." (Chapter 8: Verse 2)

Are you still being seen periodically by the hospital that carried out your transplant? You should let them know what you're experiencing. While it may be that they advise you to persevere with the ones you are taking, there may be other immunosuppressants that have become available since you had your transplant, and if so, they may be able to advise you if they are suitable for you, and whether you can slowly make a transition from some of the ones that are most problematic for you, if they think the side effect profile might be more tolerable. This, if deemed suitable, would need careful supervision and monitoring by a specialist.

Also, always try to make sure that you take the same brand. Even different brands of the same immunosuppressants, with slight variations in formulation, can worsen side effects/problems.

May Allah ease and rectify all your problems, and grant you shifaa and relief and the best of health, imaan and circumstances, ameen.

I have been making du3a for a good decade too, it is a form of 3ibaddah one day when we're standing before :Allah::swt: others coming with their wealth, health and lineage we hope we come with what will be accepted and hope to be forgiven :ia:- :Allah::swt: will answer our du3a in what is best for us.

I want to tell you that I have a cousin also on immune suppressants she's about 13 now she has been on them since she was 9.. those are the years of growth and they've been very catabolic- she has a rare genetic disease that no one was able to diagnose for a very long time and she was shuffled from one doctor to the next, taken to every university hospital her father to the cleaners.. you know what she's most grateful for? is that she hasn't lost her vision, her disease causes blindness in some cases if not halted. Her brother also had a skin disease and ear infections since birth.. my poor uncle has to deal with all of that, he went to make pilgrimage to detox he came back to his company going bankrupt, he lost his job when he was a renowned architect he had to start from scratch his boss a 27 year old idiot.. I think everyone here has a story to tell of their troubles so I just want to give you a microcosm in what goes on in an average person's life..
unfortunately this life comes with so much pain and suffering you just have to soldier through it take it one day at a time, cry your tears but be stronger you're that much stronger sob7an Allah. I browse the forum and can almost gauge the strength and character of a person based on what they're writing and what they're going through... you're tried with what seems to be more because you can handle more- cut yourself some slack continue praying and making du3a and just take it one day at a time.. whenever you're down try to temper it with the knowledge that it is all temporary and keep your eyes fixed on the bigger prize :ia: nothing is lost with :Allah::swt: if not in this life then the next..

:salam:

I just wanted to share a happy story, alhamdulillah.

A few months ago, I had mentioned the trials of this young lady in this thread:

Because Allah Taa'la has blessed you with IMAAN, and not for her (May Allah grant her hidayat as well. Ameen).

Alhamdulillah, I was fortunate to meet her again this week.....and I was completely amazed at how well she was looking!

SubhanAllah!
Despite facing so many health problems and challenges, as well as being in much financial difficulty, she travels for ~2hrs by public transport to obtain her treatment.
Her situation is still serious, but alhamdulillah, she is feeling so much better......and I was thinking, how, by Allah's will, a persons life can change towards goodness (even when we are not able to see any way out/ any hope through the gloom).

So, we should NEVER lose trust in Allah, and always try our best to remain positive through any trials that we may face.
As they say: "Storms don't last forever".

I pray that Allah opens this young womans heart to islam, as well as for the every other person who disbelieves.
And that brother raxa707 is also feeling well and having sabr through his difficulties, and knows that Allah (subhanawata'ala) is with His servants, at ALL times.
Ameen
