I don't see the point of it.

Also, trolls make accounts and this sad thing is occurring which you (especially girls) have got to be vary of:
Someone will make a fake account, say they attend a particular high school or middle school, then make this account look real so people will think that this account is of a person who attends their school. Afterwards, the fake account will add the real students of the school on Facebook. By doing that, most of the time pictures will be shared to friends. That fake account will quickly save, download pictures of girls and post it on certain pornographic websites or other websites to gain views, money, and eventually fame. Even if the picture is not of the girl naked, pedophiles and certain people look at these and they like it. The fake account will deactivate and continue to do this again and again to multiple schools.

It happened at my school and I feel it's right to share so people avoid this in the future. Sad part was, the girls could never delete all the pictures when they spread to multiple free websites where it got thousands of views. :(

I dont want to write names but its not just on this forum.

And exactly, the quote you just posted is another reason to be mentioned.

And not to forget this, it seems like many muslims on facebook have this much knowledge :p :

The reason i posted this is because the sheikh adressed some real issues and is telling to be beware of it so we can prevent these issues in the future. thats why lectures like this should be spread everywhere.

I don't think there's anything wrong if someone has a Facebook unless they use it for the wrong purposes. In the busy lifestyles that we have and time differences, it's often the easiest form of communication. I also don't think it's fair to judge others based on whether or not they have a Facebook account.
I've had one for a while, and de-activated for about a year in-between. However, especially going to school and such, it's the easiest way to be kept in the loop, form study groups, and so on. I'm sure everyone uses it for a different purpose and intent. To generalize and say that there's no good in it is a bit hasty.

And I'm sure many of us on this forum and abroad are on Facebook. There's like 750 million users on Facebook (although I heard on report saying 1.05 billion). That's a significant proportion of the world, relatively speaking.

Assalam alaykum bro,

There are brothers and sisters who post pics of themselves on facebook posing themselves and some sisters for example not even wearing hijab and when they do they have tons of make up. They might dont do it purposely wrong but this causes fitnah amongst the brothers who see these pictures. There are brothers on facebook who might have big beards but meanwhile they pose themselves with expensive sunglasses, expensive branch clothing et cetera. The sheikh in this vid explains it all. we see all different kind of things on facebook and sure there are genuine people but they dont pose the far majority, infact they're a vast minority. And ofcourse not forget the silly arguments, hadith and qu'ran quoting out of nowhere, the takfiri groups(or keyboard mujahideen :p ), and other deviant beliefs like hadith deniers.

These are reasons for me enough to not have it because it isnt about exceptional things it is about the pre-emptive things. I dont want to cause fitnah for myself and others. As bro Iceee quoted there are people who might take advantage of your pics and photoshop them. And not forget the things about undercover agents on facebook, alot of brothers have been caught thanks to facebook.

Thats why it deserves the title: fitnahbook. Also facebook supports gender-mixing.

I have facebook. And I use it too. And I find nothing wrong with it. It's like using the telephone. you can use it in halal manner and for beneficial reasons (like silatu-rahm) or you can use it for haram/disliked things like talking unnecessarily, gossiping, chatting with opposite sex.

Personally I mostly I approve as friends only those ppl who are actually known to me, with a few exceptions. like the ppl I knew from my university in Syria. It's a great way to keep in touch with old friends and it's not as costly as phonecalls.

PS. I haven't watched the video but will do so asap in-sha-Allah.

mashAllaah another chance for my to express my distaste towards facebook.

I have said it before. Facebook has exposed the faults of those who are close to me and have been close to me since a very young age. it has cast shamelessness into the hearts of those I once spent many days with. For this reason I Hate Facebook.

There isnt a fatwa about facebook being halal or haram, point is there is alot of fitnah on it and it supports free mixing. Remember what you say can be read by thousands of people. all kind of stuff, i stay away from facebook because i want privacy, i want to prevent me being dragged into fitnah and other kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, a sister of one of my friends has had this happen to her very recently on that blasted site that is facebook. She has deactivated her account and warned her friends on there that she has a fake account and that facebook account will send friend requests, she has advised for people to report it if such a thing happens.

Facebook does have its uses. It's good for networking, promoting businesses and gaining awareness of many issues around the world. I was going to purchase a share of it but I am still contemplating.

So people out there should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of this site as with all things. But especially some, actually many, Brothers and Sisters who flaunt themselves (so to speak) on Facebook, need to rein themselves in from creating and/or participating Fitnah and also to remember that Allaah Ta'ala is All-Seeing and can use the site positively and effectively in helping to spread Islaam.

Peace
