I've always been a great fan of One Piece (a Japanese cartoon about pirates), and ever since first watching it back in 2007, I've been very fond of pirates. I just wanted to ask if piracy was haram. I know that pirates like the Somali pirates, who hijack boats and ships and rob people, clearly go against the teachings of Islam, but not all pirates are like that. For example, if someone sets out into the sea, gathering a crew and seeking adventures, would they be going against Islam just because they raised a pirate flag? I know that if a non-Muslim does good things for the world and helps others in need, they would still go to Jahanam because they don't believe in Allah or the teachings of Islam. But then again, piracy isn't a religion at all. If you could be so kind to answer my questions, I am grateful :)

Pirates rob and steal and murder or sell captives, they do evil so it must be haram. If you go to sea seeking adventure then you are not a pirate. If you raise the pirate flag you intend to do evil.

Piracy is crime, and pirates are criminals. But unfortunately there are people that romanticizing pirates stories into heroism epic and show the pirates as heroes. Indeed, it makes children have image of pirates as good guys, not villains. I was one of these children.

Is piracy haram?. Piracy is crime, and crime is haram.

But what if you just want to seek adventure, yet you still call yourself a pirate? Is that haram? You're not doing anything harmful, 'Pirate' is only a title.

Once you're finished building your ship, you can start your adventure, traveling around the world with your friends and name your team as "Pirate". It's okay, as long as you don't name a baby with "Pirate".

But, when will you start build your ship?.

Son, rather than you have a big dream but you don't do anything, it's better if you have a little dream but you really do something to make your dream comes true. When I was kid I had a dream to race in mini bicycle race and soap box derby, and before I reached your age now, I already raced with my own modified bicycle and my own designed soap box.

Reach a simple dream will make you more confident to live your life. It's far better than have a big dream but always just a dream.

Yah, I realized that a long time ago. Becoming a pirate was a dream I had when I was just a little kid, but then I figured that I should stick to more realistic goals XD

Becoming pirate is realistic dream although it's absolutely not good. But if you like ship and marine, why don't you have a dream to build ship?.

Of course you must walk to reach this dream step by step. Start with making model ship and test it on the water, observe its balance, stability, etc. Then you build simple raft, then build bigger boat, and finally you can build a big ship with your own design.

Always have a dream and always do something to make your dream comes true. Don't let your dream is always just a dream.

Well I don't have good experience with building things, all of the things I build turn out to look horrible. I'm actually still thinking of a goal. I've always fancied swords, though.
