As-salaam 'alaykum,

Boycotting companies won't work. Both Palestinians themselves and the rest of us Muslims in the world have to offer Nawafil and pray fervently for the sake of the Muslims in Palestine so that Allah will bring about a change. If the almost 2 billion Muslims stop buying Israeli goods, then you still have to try and get the other potentially 5.5 billion people of the world to boycott their goods as well.

The numbers work against this scheme. Resort to prayers, worldly means haven't and will not alleviate the situation. Only Allah can save Palestine now. Relying on the UN, boycotts, protests, rocket firing, etc., these will only inhibit the situation and not help at all. No one will listen to us. And why should we rely on anyone other than Allah? Are we going to try and rely on the same people to help us who are killing our brothers and sisters and allowing this to happen?

No. Pray to Allah. Offer Nawafil daily or whenever you can for their situation, then we should hope for some change. It also requires adopting righteousness in order for these prayers to be accepted. Israel is funded by the US. BOYCOTTS CANNOT AND WILL NOT WORK.

Wassalaam.

Assalamu-alaikum,

Boycotts, divestment and sanctions indeed does work in crippling an economy:

Israeli finance minister expresses boycott fears

July 17, 2014 9:48 amIsraeli Finance Minister Yair Lapid warned that the increasing boycott campaigns against Israel will have devastating effects on the economy. Meanwhile, Germany’s largest bank, Deutsche Bank, blacklisted the Israeli Hapoalim bank as an “unethical company” due to its funding of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Israel’s Finance Minister Yair Lapid has warned that the world, United States included, is losing sympathy and patience with Israel
Speaking to a group of representatives from American Jewish organizations on Monday, Yesh Atid party chairman Lapid warned that the increasing boycott campaigns against Israel will have devastating effects on the economy.

After a top US acedemics union ASA decided to boycott Israeli academics and educational institutions that operate in and support illegal settlements in the West Bank, Dutch pension giant PGGM and Denmark’s Danske Bank also boycotted Israeli banks for the same reason.

Meanwhile, Germany’s largest bank, Deutsche Bank (DB), has blacklisted the Israeli Hapoalim bank as an “unethical company” due to its funding of illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Israel’s Maariv newspaper reported.
Dutch firm Boskalis Westminister and Italian firm Condote de Agua also withdrew bids to build private seaports in Ashdod and Haifa, fearing political reprecussions for working with Israel.

According to the Israeli Haaretz, they join Spanish companies FCC and Cyes, as well as Germany’s Möbius Bau, who also dropped out of the bidding process months back, citing threats to their business interests in the Middle-East.

Last year, boycotts on products like dates and grapes grown in the occupied Jordan Valley caused a $29 million loss for illegal Jewish settlers in the region. As reported in the Washington Post, income from exports dropped 14%, mainly due to big supermarket chains in Europe deciding to boycott the products.
David Elhayani, head of the Jordan Valley Regional Council, told the Washington Post, “In effect, today, we are almost not selling to the (Western) European market anymore.”

Zvi Avner, head of the agriculture committee in the Jordan Valley, said that sales of peppers and grapes to Western Europe have dropped by about 50% and fresh herbs by up to 40%.
In 2009, the UK gradually started labeling or completely boycotting settler products. Together with Scandinavian countries, the UK has made the 550,000 odd illegal Jewish settlers in the West Bank very nervous.

Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Waitrose are among many British firms to stop selling settler goods in recent years. Germany’s Kaiser Supermarket has also made a moral decision against selling settler products.

Many feel that a trend is slowly starting to develop in the West against Israel, similar to that which brought down the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Every protest, every march, every tweet, every boycott, every duaa - is making a small and in shaa Allah, significant difference for our brothers and sisters in Palestine.

The boycotts will never work. US gives a huge amount of funds to Israel anyways. You can't beat them using worldly means. It's impossible. If you boycott everything of theirs, you still have millions upon millions of other people buying their products and consistent funding.

The war against them is ideological. You have to win hearts and minds. Protests don't do anything either. Protests are just people yelling in the streets trying to get attention. But it doesn't work. Arguing the facts and showing the flaws in Israeli policies might help as well.

In the end, only Allah can save the Palestinians. Just don't think that any of the worldly governments will help them. They haven't for over 50 years, and that isn't going to start now. So far boycotts haven't changed a thing. How does it differ now?

I won't stop you from boycotting, but just know that it won't change anything. Money will still flow to Israel. If you think this stops it then it is pretty naive to think so. If you boycott Israel and stop one dollar from getting to them, then rest assured that America is going to make up for that dollar.

Boycotts and divestment has already been shown to work - Apartheid South Africa is just one such example.

Here is proof that they do work
Israel Changes Bar Code To Avoid Boycott! | Alternative

I agree that we should pray etc and it's looking bleak and 100% agree that it can only be done through reliance on Allah Most High but at the same time we need to do whatevers in our power, "tie the noose for the camel" so as to speak.

Also I don't think the financial implications matter as much as the message we send out globally by boycotting them; that it's a form of protest against their barbarism

Salaams.

I disagree with you to an extent. Surely, boycotting is not going to solve the problem in Gaza, but it is going to show the Zionists that we are not going to take it lying down. So many of the Zionist companies have seen the backlash and are panicking. Tesco supermarket in the UK have seen a lot of it's stores empty within a couple of days and are now starting to re-think their policies. Mashallah a lot of non Muslims are also joining the boycott. I hope it sends a loud and clear message to the Zionists.

I can't force anyone to start boycotting, but it's one of the things we can do from a distance other than praying and giving charity.

Can I just ask you a question which you do not have to answer. Are you still shopping at Zionist companies?

I can see how you would think boycotts work. And yes, perhaps even Apartheid worked before. But this situation is not Apartheid tit for tat. It is very different. Racism is something which a lot of people find disagreeable. Israel and Palestine is a whole other matter altogether.

First, the Christians in America unconditionally support Israel. So you automatically contend with another group of people as large as the Muslim population in the world. Their wealth is a whole lot greater altogether than what we Muslims have. So the financial support is automatically guaranteed to be there for Israel. I just don't see how you don't find this tiny effort fruitless.

How many non-Muslims can you get onto this train of boycott? Not many. Even if you do, America as a nation backs Israel. Also, don't forget that many non-Muslims absolutely hate Muslims. The militarism of the terrorist groups like ISIS hasn't helped this either. And yes, I hope everyone here sees how ISIS are terrorists. They bombed Hazrat Yunus (as)'s tomb and have killed scores of Muslims. They are terrorists, plain and simple. The hatred for Muslims is great and that affects people joining this or not. Most people will blindly side with Israel having succumbed to propaganda easily like sheep.

And even if many Zionist companies panic, what do you think they will do? They will get support from the West somehow because they are Jews and the holocaust card will be played over and over again and it won't stop. So I'm telling you, pray to the One Who changes the hearts of people. Only a change in heart will stop this madness. Everyone blindly supporting Israel's policies need to see how wrong they are by becoming aware of their wrong. Zionist companies will not stop being Zionist. Jews will support Israel because they strongly believe it to be their rightful place. So they will defend the actions of their government which is, apparently, in their best interest.

In the end, I feel that prayers for the Palestinians are best. While they are getting slaughtered, I feel better than action is better than non-action (boycotts). Don't stop boycotting them, but just know that it won't change a thing.

Dear Gaza,
South Africa is truly with you! :cry:

More than 200 000 South Africans gather in support of the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

August 9, 2014 Political commentary
by Affan Sosibo

The streets of the city of Cape Town in South Africa were swarmed by a pro-Palestinian demonstration which gathered nearly 200,000 participants Saturday. Marching down to the South African parliamentary building thousands shouted “free Palestine” and “We are all Gaza”.

buljkwyicaa33xo?w300&amph225 -

This is by far the largest protest ever in a democratic post-apartheid South Africa. Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus and all South African races (Blacks, Indians, Coloureds, and Whites) marched together in a spirit of brotherhood and in vehement rejection of the Zionist colonial regime of Israel.
The march was organized in part by the National Coalition 4 Palestine (NC4P), whose belief it is that political cooperation with Israel is “nothing less that collusion with racism driven war crimes killing women, children and disabled people.”

The African National Congress Youth league(ANCYL) the largest and most representative youth movement in South Africa said “Our government must listen to the tens of thousands of protestors who have gathered across South Africa; we do not need to test the patience of these masses. Expelling the Israeli Ambassador and protesting against what Israel is doing is done out of revolutionary love. It’s also done after the ANC, President Zuma and the South African government have asked, requested and pleaded with the Israeli government to end its attacks on Gaza.
The government must be fearless and must act immediately, we cannot find ourselves in a situation where conference resolutions are undermined the ANC and its leagues have never and will never be neutral on the attacks on Gaza and the on-going oppression of Palestine’.

bumlqreciaa9btn?w300&amph151 -

The ANCYL also congratulated protest organisers for the great discipline, dignified behaviour and peacefulness which prevailed during the protest even though there is an understandable frustration with the attacks on Gaza and the need for our government to be decisive. This was the biggest protest action South Africa has seen since the fall of apartheid.
South African anti-apartheid veterans , politicians and cabinet minister could be seen in the crowd as well. Minister Buti Manamela, Minister Ibrahim Patel, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dr Ahmed Kathrada, Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla Mandela, leaders of the Confederation of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), leaders of the ruling party the African National Congress (ANC), religious and business organisations allstrongly advocated the Palestinian cause, saying in a speeches that “We South Africans recognise apartheid and colonialism when we see it.”
Another figure present was the Trade unionist Tony Ehrenreich who said “There is a right to support expression but not oppression. People want justice and freedom for the Palestinians, and they will be voicing this in their thousands.”

bulkdgaiuaemwf4?w300&amph225 -

The ANCYL in KwaZulu Natal province sent a 15 member delegation headed by Jennifer Lombard to reiterate its stance that:
We note that the premier organisations for the liberation of our people such as the African National Congress (ANC), The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), the South African communists Party (SACP), the Congress of South African Trade Unions, (COSATU) are still on the trenches fighting for the Palestinian freedom consistent with the call from President Nelson Mandela that “We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians”

10592748 322865527888653 4407449523467133698 n?w300&amph224 -

We are aware
THAT The South African apartheid Prime Minister, Hendrik Verwoerd said “the Jews took Israel from the Arabs after the Arabs had lived there for 1,000 years. Israel, like South Africa, is an apartheid state”.
THAT the UN Human Rights Rapporteur John Dugard, a South African legal professor and apartheid expert, said that “Israel’s laws and practices” in the Occupied Territories “certainly resemble apartheid”.
THAT the former South African ambassador to Israel Ismail Coovadia rejected a gift of 18 trees planted in his name by the Jewish National Fund, a body that has played an important role in the displacement of Palestinians. Ismail Coovadia made striking criticism of Israeli policies, calling them a “replication of apartheid”.
THAT our beloved Archbishop Desmond Tutu said “I know first-hand that Israel has created an apartheid reality within its borders and through its occupation. The parallels to my own beloved South Africa are painfully stark indeed.”
THAT the colonial immigration to Palestine of a European people has resulted to more than 12-000 Palestinians homes destroyed and more than 250-000 colonial settlements built on Palestinian land.

Further to this end;

WE understand the Palestinians reason in rejecting a partition plan in 1947 which gave the Jews, who only owned 7 percent of the land, an astonishing half of Palestine.
WE support the Arab’s refusal to succumb to such partition, where 86 percent of the land designated for the proposed Jewish state was Palestinian-inhabited and owned land.
WE register our awareness that Israel grabbed 78 percent of Palestine through war and forced the flight of the population through deliberate massacres and then shamelessly called it a war of independence.
WE condemn the evilness of Nazism but also the use of the plight of Jews in Hitler’s Germany as justification for the murder, expulsion, and occupation of another guiltless people.
WE regard as classical colonialism the decision by Israel to legislate that any resident of France, Romania, New York, India, Australia, Iceland, or even China has a right to “return” and settle in Palestine to someone who has been expelled from his very own land, confined to a squalid refugee camp, and still holds the keys to his house.
WE are painfully aware that Israel incarcerate the Palestinian people inside squalid ghettos, destroying their livelihoods, confiscating their lands, stealing their water and uprooting their trees, and then disingenuously condemn their legitimate resistance as terrorism.
WE have not forgotten that Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 and indiscriminately bombarded its civilians for a relentless three months, murdering thousands of innocent people.
WE know that Israel continue to humiliate the Palestinians at gun point by forcing them queue for hours to move between their villages, forcing mothers to give birth at check-points through a 441 miles apartheid wall which disconnects farmers from their farms and children from their schools, while stealing even more territory as the wall freely zigzags and encroaches on Palestinian land.

In light of the above, our demands, as articulated by the broader Palestine Solidarity network, are:

1. The immediate withdrawal of our ambassador from Tel Aviv;
2. Expulsion of the Israeli ambassador from Tshwane;

  1. To terminate and prohibit all trade relations with the Israeli government and citizens.

4. A strategic, effective commitment to the call for Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) in the form of the following directives;
* Implementation of the decisions of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) conference in Durban in 2006 to ban all products of Israeli companies operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and prevent the entry of Israeli settlers into South Africa;
* Prosecute South Africans who enlist in the Israeli Occupation Forces in accordance with the Regulation of Foreign Military Assistance Act;
*Issue guidelines to South African citizens and businesses, in line with guidelines issued by 17 European governments to discourage support for Israel`s occupation and illegal colonies; and
* Adopt ethical and international legal guidelines to exclude international corporations such as Caterpillar, G4S, Veolia, from public contracts and South African companies such as Cape Gate because of their complicity with violations of international law by Israel.
* South African government and Non-Aligned Movement support for SWIFT sanctions against Israeli banks until the Israeli government:
- Agrees to relinquish its nuclear weapons, and to accede to the Non-Proliferation Treaty,
- Agrees to release immediately all Palestinian political prisoners,
- Agrees to end its occupation of the West Bank including East Jerusalem, and that it will dismantle the Apartheid Wall,
- Recognizes the fundamental rights of Arab-Palestinians to full equality in Israel-Palestine,
- Acknowledges the right of return of Palestinian refugees, and
maintain no contact with Israel until a peaceful solution is found and Palestine is free.
