Good Morning,
I recently found this website after googling for websites/other RE: making friends in the Islam world. I am in a predicament...I will only live in Colorado for another 6 months because of a medical rotation...and then I move, along with that the Mosque near me is extremely small and really doesnt offer classes on Arabic or new muslims...and so my next option would clearly be to go to another Mosque, right? Well because I plan to move out of state-I sold my car and I get around on the bus. I've never not had a car and its certainly interesting...but riding the bus is also quite humbling and forces me to walk places which makes me life more healthy...BUT the downside is...I cant necessarily get to other Mosques easily...if at all because its so far away via bus....

So..the long story short is..

I recently converted...I am praying...I fasted Ramadan...Im trying to figure out how to wear hijab...I try to read the Quaran when I can and recently downloaded a daily hadith/daily Quaran which is nice...

But I have no friends that are Muslim....its so hard to have no one to talk to....and I also havent informed my family...When I initially converted I met with the Imam who told me to tell them when I am confident, knowledgeable and, comfortable. I definitely believe this is wise but again....I know no one that is Muslim in my area...

What can I do?

Ill try to post this in new Muslim also; I hate to be redundant but I would love to hear from anyone and everyone.

Thanks!
Sabrina

Salaam Sister Sabrina.

Firstly, Welcome to our forums!:welcome:

Secondly, Welcome to Islam! It's amazing how you've already started fasting during Ramadan, started praying, and willing to try wearing the hijab and learn a new language really quickly. May Allah reward you for this.

Lastly, remember that we (your brothers and sisters) at Islamic Board are here for you! Please take things slowly as rushing into something new can cause a lot of stress. And remember, Allah is always watching. Allah knows when you're trying something new and working hard, especially if you're new to Islam. Allah is merciful and kind, so take things slowly and have lots of patience. May Allah reward you for all your efforts so far.

Asalamualykum Sabrina

Alhamdulilah for finding the truth and well done for reaching out to us :-)

I think it's a very wise idea not to confront your family just yet until you feel comfortable about everything in Islam and your able to justify and explain your actions and decisions to family and friends because am assuming they will want to know why the change, why you have to wear the scarf, why you have to pray, why you cannot eat pork etc etc. So i believe this is a wise step to take.

In terms of what you should do and how you should behave i think we are all striving to be the best Muslims we can in terms of our character, our actions, behaviour & intentions. If you have any specific questions please let us know and we will answer to the best of our knowledge.

This is the only site i recommend to newies and even oldies lol >>>> http://www.kalamullah.com/new-muslims.html

You can download e-books, read articles or even listen to audio so whichever method of learning suits you! Alhamulilah.

You don't have to be around Muslims to believe or practice Islam. I appreciate sometimes it does get lonely when you have noone you can relate to my advise would be 1) to reach out to Allah swa in all situations good and bad 2) reach out to family and friends 3) reach out to us we will be more than happy to help you as much as we can.

It's amazing to know you have found the truth or truth has found you! May Allah swa keep you protected and give you Jannah Ameen. Wishing you the best of the best.

Thanks to both replies, I am on holiday vacation and will be reading various websites like the ones youve posted, at least Ive made it a goal to do so....so the more websites with information the better! I appreciate your replies and will be sure to get on this site often...I love how we can post in forums to get answers to burning questions, resources or etc. :)...Soon I will be moving out of state and be settled and so I hope to settle into a Masjid and be able to attend classes/etc.

As Salamu Alaykum,

as you are a sister, there's no requirement to attend the mosque. you can learn a ton of stuff online. 2 folks you should become familiar with are Mufti Ismail Menk of Zimbabwe and Dr Bilal Philips. they are 2 different but very valuable assets. Bilal is valuable for his research into fique and, as an English speaker, you'll understand what he says. Menk, well, Menk is just a genius! his attitude is astounding and his speeches are amazing.

try watching this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNA203TKo_o

and this is a stupendous starter course:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG7rNevw3fE

to understand your faith a great deal more, Dr Jamal Zarabozo has this phenomenal series on Al Fatihah:

http://www.kalamullah.com/al-fatihah.html

I strongly advise you to learn thr Seerah, Life of the Prophet, pbuh. it'll make the Qur'an come alive and allow you to understand the root of many things. my favorite is by Dr Bashar Shala. if you look at the media link, there are parts on Islamic History:

http://www.pleasantviewschool.com/me...wi%20%28saw%29

Mufti Menk does the coolest Ramadhan lectures. lately he's done a series of history lectures. these are 29 part series.

the Seerah:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO22l6-Qkys

the companions. this was an awesome series, very uplifting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su0jSt5uaQY

the Prophets:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQjzErJlpJ0

i'd even recommend that you look at his youtube page and just load lectures until you see something you want to watch.

Brother Bilal has a free online university:

http://islamiconlineuniversity.com/

don't worry about your family. just become the best person that you can be. they'll see the change.

May Allah make it easy on you!

ma salama
