Sorry for the previous post in the general section, I just found what I was looking for here.

Salaam aleykum to all,

Nice forum, I've come here to learn more and ask some questions, maybe compare ideas with the members of the forum on certain topics.
Also, particularly in a critical way, to ask certain questions about Islamic practice, the Arabic language, Islamic culture and history to people who are practicing and likely more knowledgeable than your average man in the street.
I think the recent events in Paris have probably driven me to at least learn more about what I disagree with, and perhaps, do not like, rather than push myself into a bubble of ignorance where nothing changes and one closes oneself off to the answers of others.

I look forward to a fruitful exchange and hopefully good and enlightening experiences on this forum.

over the course of my stay here, we've had quite a few people join wiht similar reasons to your own, but most of them really weren't being honest with us, they came to troll and mock... I sincerely hope you are cut from a better cloth than those others.
