Salam alaykum
I took these gems of advice from this site: http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php?page=ebooks the book is rulings and virtues of fasting in Ramadan
I am paraphrase and including basic points from the article. For the full article please visit the website

1. Fast sincerely hoping to receive Allah's mercy and not for any other purpose.
The prophet saws said "whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and anticipation for the reward of Allah, then all sins prior will be forgiven;, and whoever, and whoever prays Ramadan (the night prayer) out of faith and anticipation for the reward of Allah, then all sins prior to that will be forgiven." (bukhaari, and muslim)

2. Vomiting, Nosebleeds, or accidentally getting water down the throat, when done unintentionally is not a nullifier of the fast.
The prophet saws said " he who vomits unintentionally does not have to make up his fast, but the one who intentionally vomits must make up the day."

3. Some fasting women can delay their ghusl until after dawn but before sunrise if the women realizes after finishing her menstrual cycle that she is ready to fast before dawn. She must fast in this case but she can delay the ghusl until before sunrise.
Men must bathe immediately from preforming sexual relations with their wife in order to perform the salat with the congregation .

4. It is recommended to delay taking blood tests, injections, or vaccinations until nighttime when its safer according to this:
The Prophet said " leave (performing) the act which you doubt (its permissibility), for that which does not cause you to doubt (its permissibility)." and " he who obstains from doubtful matters has safeguarded his religion and honor".

5. It is not acceptable to perform taraweeh or prayer in such a fashion that you resemble the pecking of rooster due to being in a rush to finish the prayer. This is so because prayer requires great concentration and attention.

6. The number of rakats to pray in taraweeh is flexible and there are many evidences to show this such as the fact that the Prophet used to pray eleven sometimes, thirteen other times and less then that at other times. The prophet saws said " (continue to pray) two rakat prayers until you fear that dawn might come, then one should pray a single rakat prayer (witr) to conclude his night prayer" (bukhari and muslim). Some evidences which no limit was set for rakats in taraweeh are:
Some prayed twenty three at the time of Umar radi allahu anha
some of the Salaf may allah have mercy on them prayed thirty six mentioned by ibn taymiyah
ibn taymiyah also mentioned that others prayed forty one!
Ibn taymiyah further more recommends to prayer lesser rakahs if you are a person who tends to prolong your recitation and bowing and prostration, and he recommends to prayer a greater number of rakats if you are a person who recites shorter chapters and shortens his bowing and prostration.

This is all the major points that I wanted to share with the forum. I hope someone found it interesting.
Take care and Allah bless us all and forgive us all this Ramadan. Ameen.

If you can't understand the taraweeh recitation. A little tip for kushoo is learn only some Qur'an words and Arabic :). Then you can actually start to understand a bit of what is being recited. So imam recites "Rahma" and you can understand the basic message "Oh Allah is talking about Rahma in this verse".

Assalamu alaikum,

(smile) I thought it might help if I added a little definition:

Khushoo‟ means calmness, serenity, tranquility, dignity and humility. What makes a person have this khushoo‟ is fear of Allah and the sense that He is always watching. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, Daar al-Sha‟b edn., 6/414). Khushoo‟ means that the heart stands before the Lord in humility and submission. (al-Madaarij, 1/520).

(smile) May Allah, the Vast, Help us to work on our hearts this Ramadan.
