hi there,....I was given a handmade Muslim prayer beads by a male. WE have been friends for 4 years. He is a devout Muslim. I am non-muslim (although interested in learning about it) I was wondering if him giving me that had a special meaning behind it...thanks Malia

Thx for the links!!! :). Truthfully, we are both attracted to each other. My gut tells me if he could, he would like a relationship with me. We flirt alot. Came close to being intimate....didn't want tobe distratted by his "urges" doesn't want to loose our friendship. And so in the 4yrs we've been friends.....then last year he made me the Necklace out of sailing line with 33 knots on it. He loves the water & made it with that.

Flirt and intimate?

Doesn't sound like a devout Muslim.

Maybe you have a different perception what is devout and what is not.

i agree with you, i guess "devout" is relative, and when I say came "close to intimate" meaning, he said, "this is not right, my spirituality comes first. Please forgive me dear. I value you as a friend" AND as I know there is no PERFECT Muslim, Christian, Hindu...we are all human. And you are certainly revealing to me how Islam judges perception. I came here to understand, and feel already criticized....

You're welcome. And please don't feel discouraged by something someone on the internet says. No person represents a perfect example of Islam...except Muhammad(pbuh).

Greetings Malia,

(smile) Welcome to this Forum! I'm afraid that I'm a little busy with preparing for Ramadan, or else I'd be happy to talk with you a little more. But I just wanted to say: please don't be too discouraged if some people critisize you or someone you esteem. I'd like to invite you to take your time and get to know a little about Islam. (smile) I'd suggest the Source (the Qur'an) is a good starting place. You might like to look at Yahya Emerick's translation of the Qur'an with extended study guide.

Please don't be shy to ask questions and to look for information. (smile) And remember that we are ordinary people on this site: we are fallible.

May God Bless you for taking the time to try to understand what Islam is all about. And may He Ease your journey.

You're very welcome!, Ramadan Mubrarak!

Here is a good speaker you might like. https://www.youtube.com/user/YasminMogahedOnline/videos.

I do want to explain something about prayer beads. There are supplications made called dhikir. Some of them are

1. AllahuAkbar....God is great(greater than anything or anyone)
2. la-ilahailala- There is not ilah but God. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReboWgK3VnM) Yasmin explains what is an ilah, in this video).
3.SubhanaAllah- Glory is to God
4.Alhamduilah- All praise & thanks be to God
5. Asthaghfirullah- God please forgive me

You can say them as many times as you want, many people say them 100 times, which is what the beads are for, to keep count. When you use the beads you have to have the intention that the beads are just a means to keep track of supplicating, the beads themselves are not holy. I don't use beads though, I use my fingers. Each finger is divided into 3 sections(by creases). When I count each finger on both hands 3 times, plus each finger on its own, that adds to 100.

Musliminshallah- thanks so much. I have learned (read on line) that if you travel there are some "exemptions"? is that correct? I travel 4-5 days a week by airplane/different cities time zones, and have 2 days off consecutive. How do i be consistent with Ramadan? And thanks so much for the dhikir. I will def choose once i learn to properly do ablution/wudhu and Fajr. I have only myself and this forum to learn about Islam. Keeping my heart open, and hope Allah will forgive me for not learning this or following instructions. Everything i learn is from here or research on line. Thanks for checking on me, i am doing fine with fasting i managed to do it fully 1 day June 21ar 16hrs nothing. tomorrow my 2nd day off will try again. Tuesday travel for 4 days straight....

You're welcome! I do know that people who travel can make up the fasts but I am not sure about when the traveling is part of your job, someone who knows better than me would be better to answer that.

I found this on another forum in someone's signature. If you want to download sunnah, click hadith & sunnah then Sahih Muslim then download vol 1 & vol 2.(the others are the same thing, just in 8 volumes instead of 2). then go back, click Sahih Bukhari & download 1 & 2 for it.
There are other folders you might like, like fasting, prayer, women, new muslims..

Dear Crimsontide- This video is by far one of the BEST informative ones on Salah ever. The narrator is so sincere, and makes it so easy to understand the importance of Salah! wow! Thanks so much for guidance. if you have any more just like this, please let me know! I have so much gratitude. I did not realize its 1 of the 5 pillars of Islam, and a very important one!! And by the way, yes traveling is part of my job, so i am seeking how to "make up fast" i was able to do 1 full day of fast, but since i did not know how to do Salah, and learning ablution/wudhu...prayed something like "almighty allah, please forgive me if my prayer is not in line with your request, I am deeply learning as I go, and ask for guidance. I praise you Almighty one....." I broke fast on my 2nd full day of participating (since i was traveling July 18-20) so FULL fast June 21, 1 day only, and broke it today...its really difficult but trying my best. I travel June 23-26th will have 1 full day then travel June 28/29th. I am not sure what to do. The video says 5x a day is equal to 50x a day...so i am gonna do my best to learn Salah/Wudhu/Ablution. Thanks again for your help and anything else, please pass to me that might help me "revert" Insh'alla! Malia
