Greetings and peace be with you najimuddin;

Thanks for sharing, we should also strive to be merciful and forgive to those who hurt us, if we can, we will come to understand how Allah can be merciful to us.

In the spirit of praying to a merciful and forgiving God,

Eric

Wa ‘alaikum assalam Brother Eric,

Thanks for the reminder. It’s a constant struggle checking myself from thinking, feeling, and/or doing something that'll lead to Allah's displeasure. For me, it’s the guidance of the Almighty that helps me through everything – including understanding Allah’s mercifulness. From what I’ve learned, human beings are fortunate to have someone who communicated, taught, and practically demonstrated the Message of Allah to them. That person is Muhammad (PBUH). His (PBUH) guidance has been preserved, taught, practically demonstrated/lived, and passed down to us through a rich scholarly heritage in unbroken chains of transmission. Because of this, we can gain a contextual humanly understanding of the Almighty.

In explaining Surah 2: Verse 129, the celebrated senior Islamic research scholar, Mufti Taqi Usmani states:

“…The Holy Quran leaves no ambiguities in the fact that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is not supposed to merely recite the verses [of the Quran] and then leave it to the people to interpret and apply them in whatever manner they like. Instead, he is sent to ‘teach’ the Book. Then, since teaching the Book is not enough, he is also required to teach ‘Wisdom’, which is something additional to the ‘Book’. Still, this is not enough, therefore the Holy Prophet (PBUH) has also to ‘make the people pure’, meaning thereby that the theoretical teaching of the Book and the ‘Wisdom’ must be followed by a practical training to enable the people to apply the Book and the Wisdom in the way Allah requires them to apply.” (The Authority of Sunnah, page 8)

Commenting on Surah 4: Verse 80, he continues:

“It is also clarified by the Holy Quran that the Prophets are the spokesmen of Allah’s pleasure. Hence, the obedience of the Prophet (PBUH) is actually the obedience of Allah Himself.” (The Authority of Sunnah, pages 13-14)

The following two videos provide a glimpse of how Allah manifested His Mercy through Muhammad (PBUH) in ways that humans can comprehend.

1. Mufti Ismail Menk: The man who urinated in the mosque

2. Shaykh Zahir Mahmood: The conquest of Makkah

May Allah guide us to – and keep us in – His good pleasure.

Allah is the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful, His mercy encompasses all things, and is the source of all the compassion and mercy that exists.
