Asalam Alaikum,

Please share this post!

A third of food in the UK never gets eaten, yet 13 million people in this country are struggling to afford to eat. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is on a mission to find out why we waste so much food.

Excellent initiative by one man to bring a great change to the UK's waste problem. He highlights how big supermarkets dispose of edible food in the rubbish containers rather than giving them to the charities in need.

He also highlights how British farmers are forced to get rid of tons of their produce simply because they are not cosmetically viable for supermarket stringent policies to sell to their customers! How immoral it is to throw away food, especially when so many are going without food.

Also due to the Supermarket policies many British Farmers are forced to close down, due to last minute order cancellations, after the crops are picked and then Farmers are not paid for their hard work, one such example mentioned in the series was the Hammond Family who produced Parsnips for Morrisons Supermarket, who were forced to close after 30 yrs of farming!

Please watch his 2 episodes highlighting this problem in UK and share with your friends and family. It's available on bbc I player - Hugh's War on Waste.

JazakAllah Khair.

Subahnallah, this is the effect of wanting 'perfect' food/produce only. That why I buy and support organic produce. See the only reason why there is so much waste in supermarkets is because everything has to be uniform, all produce have to look the same and if one is 'dis-formed' they get rid of it. They should really give people the option to buy it or not
