Can anyone think of tips to offer to help someone wake up for fajr salat?
For me, it takes me a very long time to calm my mind to rest (much less sleep), and since my schedule is so late due to my husband's work, by the time I settle down it's an hour or two til fajr while he's long in sleep. By then, I want to at least attempt to get to sleep and sometimes I manage it and and sometimes I don't and I stay awake til after fajr. However if I do get to sleep, I am a very heavy sleeper. I have an athan app on my phone and I also set an alarm ten minutes prior and 9/10 times I don't hear it , I'm not sure if my husband ignores it or if he doesn't hear it either but I've asked him to wake me up.
As a result we both, for the most part, miss fair prayer. This is something I need to change, hubs is trying to change his shift at work so that our schedule is more regular and less like night owls. In the meantime, I would love any tips. I make dua and niyah every night, and inshallah that is beneficial to me.
Jazakallah khayr bros and sis for any sharing or comments

If you wanna wake up in a hour or two, drink atleast 4 glasses of water, and you'd wake up running in a hour and a half.

I'm sorry if this sounds funny btw, wasn't intended.

Walaikumasalaam,

Am sorry to hear you are not able to get up for fajar but don't worry.

Alhamdulilah you have the intention so your half way to achieving your goal.

I used to struggle too especially when the timing of salaah changes & with the arrival of winter. You just want to stay in your warm bed. I guess this is why the Imam states in the azaan salaah is better than sleep and it really is.

I would advise you to learn more about Islam, learn more about Allah swt and how kind and merciful HE is to us (it is enough to make you cry Alhamdulilah we are so fortunate and blessed with so many things), also if you don't already know educate yourself about Allah swt wrath and punishment.

There's many many different reasons why Muslims are able to motivate themselves and pray for Fajar. For me the reason changes depending on my mood and my level of emaan but some of the reasons may include;

A) In the dunya a sign of love is when the individual makes sacrifices. In the same way if we claim to love Allah swt, if we claim to love Islam then we should obey all the rules whether this is out of love, gratitude, duty, fear and so on. You can attach any emotion.

B) Self-analysis. Analyse where you are in terms of your religious acts and question yourself every day whether your deeds are enough. A true Muslim will always feel like they have not done enough because even the good deeds that we do may have faults in them so we need to do more good to compensate for our flaws.

C) Compete with your husband or friends. See who is able to get up for Fajar and try and out-win each other.

& more importantly, salaah is the only act which differentiates us from the non-Muslims.

Initially you may need to force yourself to pray and don't hit the snooze button. Just get up and pray because if you procrastinate you are allowing the shayatan to step in. Once you get in a habit of praying in sha Allah, your body clock will automatically get up without the need of an alarm and believe me, it's a beautiful feeling when you pray Fajar consistently. Always push yourself each day to succeed and motivate yourself.

I wish you the best and more. May Allah swt help you and your husband succeed Ameen.

Jazakallah khayr for your reply. Would like to restate that my problem is not to decide To or To Not get out of bed to pray, it is that I do not hear the adhan amidst my sleep. Often times I force myself to stay up until fair because I fear that I miss the adhan. I pray that my internal clock will awaken inshallah, unfortunately my husband work has no consistent schedule and I throve with schedule. I would guess that that internal clock of mine is way out of wack:/

Fajr is the most difficult prayer to perform because you have to wake up early at dawn and make Wudu and have to leave your comfortable bed.

Fajar prayer should be done, because it is the first victory against Satan for that day.

I know it is difficult in start, but if you keep practicing, it will become easier just as Quran says: "after hardship comes ease".

Myself I put a alarm to wake me up and sometimes I plan to ignore it but few minutes later I changed my mind and I started to pray Dawn prayer and things went easy.

The main reason that you can't wake up for Dawn prayer is because the devil is giving you bad feelings such as feeling of being sleepy which is caused by him(the devil).

Good always beats evil with hard work.

Just think like this: "ok, if I Want Paradise, I just work for it and there I can wish to sleep for whole day but now I got to work" that's how I say to myself and it helped.

Put on many alarms. That is what I do.

By the end of the sixth one, I am like alright that is it. I can't sleep anymore.
