Assalaamu alaikum,

(smile) This is cleverly put (in the video). (sigh) But it is a bit misleading, too. It is not just people who go to nightclubs and who are looking for extra-marital affairs who lie like this. People clothing themselves in false piety can lie like this, too. (sad) Because too many people are not looking for a real marriage (or friendship) bond, but instead are focused on gaining things in this world. It might be wealth, or status (including immigration), or just to have some fun, or various reasons particular to an individual... but they are not looking for a strong lifetime bond in which to learn and grow, to give and take. They are looking to enrich themselves in some superficial way, and they care nothing for the person they lie to. Such people are takers, and have no interest in growing.

So I'd suggest it's not just on the internet you have to be wary. And not just in nightclubs. In general, look to a person's actions and deeds over time. They tell truths more than words.

(smile) And as it says in the video... don't give your heart over to another person. Your heart belongs to God. Your love for another person should be a reflection of how much they strive to do what Pleases Allah. And by this, I mean their character, how they behave with others. Are they kind, generous, gentle, forgiving, self-sufficient, strong ... do they struggle towards the Qualities expressed by the 99 Names? Because anyone may go through the motions of prayer. Anyone may grow a beard or put on a headscarf. But only those believers who sincerely strive to Please their Lord make the efforts to be good to others and to creation in general.

May Allah, the Compassionate, the Wise, Help us to find honest and true people with whom to share our lives... and Help to be such people ourselves.
