I think brothers and sisters understand and apply this principle as best as they can. However, the 'listening and memorising' stage has an implication of understanding and Islam cannot be properly understood without knowing the Arabic language. Since a lot of people cannot understand the Arabic language this principle therefore cannot be applied in its fullest and truest sense.
