Asak Brothers and Sisters,

I am 40 year old muslim IT professional from UK, I am really feeling guilt to write this mail to muslim community forum because I know that what I did was Haram as per Muslim religion but still I would like to share with the group how I lost everything and now I have great faith in Allah that he will give some light and hope in my life,

I am running LTD IT consultancy in UK, after working 10 years in UK I earned and saved good amount of money , I never had any bad habits, in recent months some how I developed online gamble addiction and I lost all of my 10 years savings within 20 days its all taxable money for government,I am really shocked how its all happend so quick that I am shatterd, I know value of the money but its all happend in not having self control and chasing losses starting from 10's then its reached to 1000's , after 20 days I realised this is going to kill me and I stopped and I came out of addiction. But still my losses chasing but right now I dont want to do any thing wrong action other than praying allah.

I feel sicker than sick, and I feel like I am in an endless nightmare, and it has only been, less than 2o days. I wish I could turn back the hands of time just for 20 day so I can avoid that mistake I made. I basically have nothing left on my name but one thing is that I dont have any debts but all my savings gone ,I know its all my irresponsibility going online gambling. It feels so crappy, like I have been robbed and stripped, because of an unexpected loss to all my funds. I am not sure what to do but, again, it is like a nightmare while I am awake. I do not want to kill myself.

What should I do? Where do I start? How do I get it together, because it seems all I can do is lay down and dwell. I do not have the energy , I request to all in this forum to please dua for me and if any body having any thoughts please let me know.

Allah Hafiz.

I'm really sorry to hear of your situation, and I completely sympathize with you because I know you regret your mistake. That said, know that Allah is Most Forgiving and Most Merciful and loves for His slaves to turn onto the Straight Path. The first thing you should do, brother, is to to recite Sayiddul Istighfar and make a firm determination to not go even near any gambling sites or centers. That is the first step, brother.

The second step is to recognize that nothing is the end of the world, and that you at least do not have debts, which is an immense blessing. So, take this moment to give sincere thanks and gratitude to Allah for not having any debts.

The third step is to realize that there are many millionaires who have lost all their money and then remade their money again. Remember one thing, since you were able to make money once, you still have that ability. There is no shortage of wealth in this dunya, and you can make wealth again. You'll just have to make the intention and goal of accumulating wealth again, and make a plan on how to make that wealth.

In-sha-Allah, we'll make duas for you, but from your heart, take out any intentions and thoughts of killing yourself because you are precious and you are loved as Allah SWT would not have created you if Allah did not deem your worth as valuable and did not love you. So, take a moment to internalize that worth inside of yourself and recognize that as human beings we all make mistakes and instead of dwell on our mistakes we need to instead move forward with the heart of making ourselves succeed against whatever odds we're facing, because no odd is bigger than Allah, and Allah can again give you what you had.

Do the positive wealth affirmations to which I'm linking you until you feel in yourself a surge of energy and intention to make yourself great again, as you can. Everything is possible - you only need true belief and intentions to make your life be whole again.

If you are able to work then find work, even at minimum wage you should be able to recoup losses.

After I left my last job I was a broken man, it took three operations to get me back on my feet and pain free..

But I'd easily waste my days sleeping on the same bed if I allowed it.. Or if it was written again.

There is no gamble at your stage, earn halal and only make moves your education allows.

Wa'alaikumsalam

40 is not too old, bro. I myself 48 and still working.

You are still able to work and start to build your future again. Never too late for it.

Don't give up, okay. :)

Greetings and peace be with you shaikahmad;

I stopped and I came out of addiction. But still my losses chasing but right now I dont want to do any thing wrong action other than praying allah.
I am so sorry to hear your story, whatever you do, you must stop gambling now, even though there is a temptation to keep chasing your losses.

My uncle was a wealthy man, he ran a fleet of 25 lorries and warehouses, he had a big house in acres of ground with a stable block, that was back in the 1950's. He went to a casino one night and won a lot of money. From that moment on, he thought he could earn a fortune gambling. He lost his business, house and wife. He gambled for the rest of his life and died a poor man five years ago, with nothing to his name, he was still hoping to come up with a formula to beat the odds.

He was an incredibly clever man, and had started off in life as an accountant, he should have known better. The bookies set the odds, if you gamble to their rules, they will always win. But winning money, or thinking you can win money is the worst thing possible with gambling. We could all see he was doing wrong, but he would not listen.

Draw a line under your loss, that is the most that you have lost, now is the time to build yourself up, it sounds as if you have a good job.

I like the advice from Adam, start again, volunteer, help people in need, and you will find a greater wealth, this will bring you closer to Allah, rather than having money in the bank.

Blessings

Eric

Have you considered contacting 'Gamblers Anonymous'. It is a UK based charity that helps ppl in your situation.

Do not be overly disheartened at your losses, remember that you have the ability to rebuild everything.
