Salam Brothers and Sisters,

I've been looking for a physical copy of Islamic family law books in english and I'm having a very hard time finding one. A book that has rules pertaining to marriage (polygamy as well) , divorce, roles of the wife in a marriage etc. I found a few law books but realized they were all shia and I feel that their rules might be completely different ( not really sure ). Does anybody know where I can find one online that I can order? Also, if there are some links online I guess thats better than nothing but I would prefer a hard copy. Thank you!

Thank you! That's a good one. As far as family law goes, where do we turn to for any Islamic laws? Is there a Grand Mufti with a book I can order? I have come across the Shia who always tell me about their Ayatullahs ( I think that's what they are called ) but I don't know where the Sunni would turn. I don't think our rules are the same. I'm feeling confused about this.

What do you mean by Islamic law?

Like "How to do Wudu, how to pray Salah, haram/halal" etc?

Try this book. It touches upon most things in marriage, but I haven't seen polygamy in there.

Also you can search threads on this forum. Plenty of topics about it [emoji4].

Ws.

It is very encouraging to see your zeal for the knowledge of Deen. May Allah Ta'ala increase your understanding of Islam and keep you steadfast on the journey of acquiring knowledge.

Your understanding is correct Shia books are not reliable and cannot be used by us for rulings.

The difference between sunnis and shias is an usuli (fundamental) difference.

Regarding family laws and family etiquettes I have attached the link of three books by some senior scholars.

These three books should cover the topic very well. They're all translations of the original books.

My advice is that you read these books multiple times. Finish one round and start again read them a few times so the understanding of the laws settle. This is the correct and best way to seek knowledge -to read a book multiple times.

Also there's another that I recommend to people, that has shown to have tremendous benefit of increasing Deen in one's life. The book is called Fazail A'amaal (by shaykh Zakaria Kandewlawi). I recommend you read little every day of this also.

Wow! Thank you so much. These are great books. I will be reading them all inshallah. I was worried about the shia thing because I have come across so much of their books and information I was feeling confused. I know they have completely different beliefs.
