i pray you are well. I know there's some difference of opinion in regard to the permissibility of celebrating birthdays. I'm of teh opinion that it's ok within certain limits. Hoever, I feel it's important, particularly with children, that we do not create a false impression of b/days in childrens minds.

Natuarally as family members we want to shower our children with gifts but could this create a wrong concept in the childs mind of teh actual significance of their b/day. I know it sounds contradictory in taht on one hand I think it's ok yet have doubts of children getting the wrong impression.

I don'd object to family members getting together and having a meal as i feel this is something which strengthens ties amongst friends and family. However the idea of banners and ballons is something that doesn't sit easy with me. The reason for this is that as children, who have no perception of right and wrong surely they will grow up thinking of this as a day of significance when in reality it's not from an Islamic point of view.

I hope this makes sense but how do we strike the balance in not creating a false sense of significance in childrens minds.
