(The Knowledge Of The Unseen)

ILMUL GHAIB is classified into four types:

1. علم الغيب الذاتي :
The knowledge of the unseen which someone has got without any واسطة (medium).
The whole ummat is متفق (agrees) that this type of knowledge is خاص (specific) to الله تعالى (Allah Ta'ala ) and that Nabi Muhammad نبي صلى الله عليه و سلم or any other Prophet didn’t have this type of knowledge.

2. علم الغيب العطاﺋي المحيط العام :
The knowledge of the unseen encompassing from ازل till ابد, (from past eternity to infinite eternity) which someone has been granted by الله تعالى (Allah Ta'ala)
The whole ummat is متفق (agrees) that this type of knowledge is خاص (specific) to الله تعالى (Allaah Ta'la) alone and that نبي صلى الله عليه و سلم (Nabi Muhammad or any other Prophet) wasn’t granted this type of knowledge.

3. علم الغيب العطائي المحيط الخاص :
The entire knowledge of the unseen, encompassing from the beginning of creation till the time the Jannatis will enter Jannat and the Jahannamis will enter Jahannam, which someone has been granted by الله تعالى (Allaah Ta'ala)
With regards to this type of knowledge there is اختلاف (difference of opinion).
According to some, Nabi Muhammad نبي صلى الله عليه و سلم was granted a portion of this type of knowledge on different occasions and in small bits (called مفاتح الغيب), but
According to the vast and overwhelming majority of the اهل السنة و الجماعة (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah), this type of knowledge is also خاص (specific) to الله تعالى (Allah Ta'ala) and Nabi Muhammad نبي صلى الله عليه و سلم wasn’t granted this type of knowledge.

4. علم الغيب العطائي غير المحيط :
The knowledge of the some مغيبات (hidden unseen things).
The whole ummat is متفق (agrees) that this type of knowledge can be ثابت (established) for غير الله (besides الله تعالى ) like the Prophets through revelation of Allah Ta'ala, inspiration, true dreams etc. This is granted as per the discretion of Allah on various occasions and as per the wish of Allah Ta‘ala, not on demand of the pious person.

Nabi Muhammad Sallalahu Alai Wasallam didn't know many things in this world, for example , the angel Jibreel when he first visited him in the cave of Hira, the necklace of his beloved wife Aisha radiyallahu Anha when it got lost on an expedition and the fact that a Jewish lady poisened the food when she invited him and some Sahabah for a meal. However , whatever Allah Ta'ala wished for Nabi Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi wasallam to know of the future or if his worldly situation , he came to know .

May Allâh Ta’ala grant us all the understanding - Ameen
