The first Muslim woman in Germany has been elected as the speaker of a state parliament in what she described as a “historic” step for the country.

Green Party politician, Muhterem Aras, took the post in Baden-Württemberg from a member of a popular right-wing party on Wednesday.

“We wrote history today,” she said after winning with a significant majority.

Ms Aras, 50, said her victory sent a message of “openness, tolerance and successful integration”, The Local reported.

Born in Turkey, she moved to a town near Stuttgart with her parents as a child and studied economics before founding her own tax advice firm.

Her political career started in 1992, standing for the Green Party on the local council and rising through the local party to become its local leader, and enter the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.

She was elected as “Landtagspräsident” by 96 local MPs, becoming the first Muslim woman to take the office.

Members of the anti-immigration party Alternative for Germany (AfD) refused to join the applause during Ms Aras’ first session as speaker, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

Earlier this month, the AfD enjoyed record success in local elections on a manifesto that claimed Islam was not compatible with the country’s constitution and called for a ban on minarets and the niqab.

:salam:

I don't think it is halal to go in the democratic system. Allah SWT knows best what will happen to such people.

Allahu alam.

wa alaykum assalam,

very dangerous situation. According to Wikipedia Aras was born as an Alevi. How can she represent the majority of the Muslims in Germany when she has a wrong manhaj? Many Germans are gonna think now, that what she is talking about Islam is authentic. Unfortunately, most of them don't have the intellect to differentiate. So what, there's every likelihood that she will not change the situations of the Muslims. How should that work when someone doesn't take Quran and Sunnah as a reference.

May Allah guide us and help this Ummah to establish a place where all Muslims can practice their deen in peace, and where every other human being is even able to live in peace. Amin.

That are people who follow Alevism. It's one of the sects. Can just link a Wikipedia entry.

I do know the hadeeth about all the sects , i guess its like mind blowing how many people can deviate from islam and each have something entirely different to say [emoji53]

At least she is not non-muslim. Would you prefer a Christian or Atheist?

Ha Ha she is an apostate. 1 Females cannot be political leaders in Islam. 2 The Green party is a remarketed communist party. 3 A Caliphate is the only legitimate political system for Muslims.

Then why do barely any Muslims want a caliphate? If Muslims really wanted a caliphate or islamic state they'd all be pushing for one. It seems that 99% of Muslims are quiet happy with the way things are in terms of governance?

People are social animals and most are followers and a few are leaders. So if the "Muslim" leaders are corrupt the followers will still follow them. I suppose the CIA stir up rebellion once and a while if the corrupt leaders are not sycophantic enough for "American Interests".

Females can be leaders of females but not leaders of males. And in Islam politics IS religion.

Was Aisha not also a leader of both men and women? Was she not an adviser?
