Assalamu alaykum,

So as it's convenient I take my salah times off the internet, the website I use has several options.

The hanafi/shafi one I get as it is a matter of madhab, but there's another option for an angle-based rule/ one-seventh rule, so what's that about? It affects Fajr and Isha timing by around an hour, so quite significant imo. I just go with the one-seventh rule because that's what the nearest mosque does.

Can someone explain to me in a simple way :D how are the rules calculated to come up with the different timings and are they both valid, or is one more mainstream?

Ustadh Abu Eesa covered some points regarding this few years ago on his FB page here: https://www.facebook.com/AbuEesaPers...14223425407498

It might be of some help.

Also, please see the detailed explanation on moonsighting.com regarding Fajr and Isha prayers calculation: http://www.moonsighting.com/how-we.html
