View Full Version : Modern "Courting" in Islam

Given that we now live in a modern society, it makes it difficult to find spouses. We do have, Alhamdulillah, Islamic websites for match making which helps a lot if one decided to find a spouse themselves or with the involvement of their parents.
What is the ruling given the following:

2 people talk, in a clean and respectful manner and know that you have lots of things in common
the 2 people wants to meet. Now, we know that you cannot be alone together because Shaytan is the 3rd. However, what about meeting in a public place with no touching or "gazing" of any kind and also during the day? Is this permissible?

I believe I read somewhere that this is ok as long as it is in a public place and all respect is put in place, following Islam.

Can someone clarify this for me?
Also, how many times are you allowed to meet this person before deciding to have a Nikah? I suspect as many times since a Nikah is a permanent and life long commitment thus you want to make sure that you "tick" all the boxes for compatibility, correct?

Thank you brothers and sisters for your advice and guidance.
