Assalaamu Alaykum,

This is an extremely well balanced advise and gentle refutation of the misguidance given in some recent talks of the popular youtube vlogger and nasheed singer ‘I am Khaled’ regarding music, whether it is halal or haram, whether the deen is clear cut about this matter of music or whether the deen is clear cut in general.

May Allaah reward Ustadh Abu Taymiyyah for his beautiful summing up many of the points put by other brothers in their articles and videos in response to many of the western nasheed singers / musicians, ameen.

Brothers who though they seem in some cases to be sincere in their love of the deen, are using musical instruments or sound effects which are almost identical to musical instruments and at the same time justifying their deeds according to the aql (reason / intellect) rather than referring to the clear texts on these matters.

Fans of I am Khaled or other nasheed artists should not take this as a personal attack, it is not, I know Ustadh Abu Taymiyyah and Khaled both, they are both beautiful brothers in their own way and the Ustadh is just advising Khaled to stick to clear evidences, correct himself in his actions and stay away from talking about matters on which he has no authority to speak which is good advise for many of the youtube / social media public figures who have come to prominence in the past few years.

People accept the existence of Allah and the authority of texts due to 'aql - reason - intellect, otherwise they foolishly accept them because their fathers, tribe, or society accepted them. Prophet Ibrahim pbuh used 'aql in order to find the truth, and in other cases some Prophets were just faced with the overwhelming truth.
With that misconception which is often used to distinguish between the "secular" and "religious" people cleared, it would be useful to look further and find the reasons why some people have a difference of opinion on musical instruments used to promote lawful speech, there are many threads on the topic.

Yes it is hard to comprehend why do normal, sane, generally intelligent people in the nasheed world resort to music, it is mind-boggling, especially since strict warnings is being given in hadith for music. They will find all sorts of reasons to justify it but it is baseless.
