“Whoever loves something will speak excessively about it”--

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya has recorded this as the statement of Rabi’ah Al ‘Adawiyyah (rahimahallah). Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has cited this statement as the words of Malik ibn Dinar (rahimahullah).

(Dhammud Dunya of Imam Ibn Abid Dunya, Hadith: 464, Shu’abul Iman, under Hadith: 499) ‘

Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) states that Imam Abu Nu’aym and Imam Daylami (rahimahumallah) have recorded this statement on the authority of Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). (Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 1050)

But the the chain of all narrators is not mentioned in any of the books

It can be actually surprising how many well-known hadiths can end up being weak or even fabricated. I mean, many of them have a message which is similar to the authentic hadiths but we do still need to be really cautious. It's a matter of the deen subhanAllah.

''If a person learns a chapter of knowledge to teach others and seeking the pleasure of Allah. Allah will grant him the reward of 70 Prophets.'' -

--Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in his Tarikh. However, the chain of transmission consists of a narrator who has been declared extremely weak by some Muhadithun and a liar according to others.. The Hadith is thereforenotsuitable to quote. --

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar was asked, “Would the companions of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) laugh? He replied, ‘Yes and the Iman in their hearts was greater than mountains”

This Hadith is recorded in Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq through a reliable chain.

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 20671, 20976, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 1 pg. 311. Also see: J

Once a man came to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and stood in front of him. Overcome with awe and fear, he began trembling and shaking! The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) reached out to him, and said,“Calm yourself down! For I am no king. I am but the son of a woman from the Quraysh who [out of poverty] had to eat dried meat.”

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Al Ansari (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs. ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of narrators of Imam Ibn Majah authentic....

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3312, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 47/48 and Zawaid Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1084. Also see Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 2 pg. 466)

“Honour my Sahabah for they are the best of you”

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded these words part of a longer narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Al Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 20710) Imam Nasai (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith with the words, ‘Honour my Sahabah, then those after them and then those after them…’

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic.

(Sunan Nasai, Hadith: 9173, 9180, Al Amalil Mutlaqah, pg.64. Also see Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2165)

“Whoever sits in company of a religious Scholar it is as though he has sat with a Nabi”

‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) states that he hasnotcome across this as a Hadith. This should therefore not be attributed to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

However, Imam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) said, “When you see a person dedicated to Hadith, it is as though you have seen Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)”

(Al Maqasidul Hasanah, Hadith: 1104)

Dua of Hz Adam :as; ‘O Allah, you know what I keep secret and what is open so accept my excuse, you are aware of my needs so grant me my request, you know what is in my soul so forgive my error. O Allah, I ask you for enlightening faith, and true conviction, until I know that what afflicts me is only due to what you have prescribed for me and grant me the ability to be happy over what you decreed’.'' (Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 5971) However this narration has been transmitted with a chain that consists of a very weak narrator. In fact some Muhaddithun have also found this narrator to be a liar. (Al Kamil, vol. 10 pg. 164, Al Mughni Fid Du’afa, vol. 2 pg. 459 and Lisanul Mizan, vol. 8 pg. 276.) And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.

Imam Khattabi and Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma).*‘Allamah ‘Iraqi (rahimahullah) has declared both the versions weak.

(Al ‘Uzlah of Imam Khattabi and Az Zuhd of Imam Bayhaqi; Refer: Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 1393. Also see: Ithafus Sadah Al Muttaqin, vol. 5 pg. 191)

Translation

A time will come upon the people wherein the destruction of a man will be due to his spouse, parents and children. They will condemn his poverty and burden him with things he is unable to do. He will then do such things which will cause him to lose his Din and be destroyed

Imam Nawaai mentions a hadith on the authority of Saaiduna Abu Umammah that Maryam Alayhis Salam and Asiyah wife of Firawn will be the wives of the Prophet of Allah in paradise. (“Tahzeebul Asma Wal Lughaat” on Page 355 volume 2.) No reference is given of the hadith

Imam Jalal Uddin Suyuti (RA) reports from Tabraani and Baihaqi who narrate from ''Hukaymah Bint Umaymah Radiallahu Anha that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam had a wooden bowl in which he used to urinate in and it was placed under his bed. One night, the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam searched for it but could not find it and asked for it saying, “Where is the bowl?” The members of the household replied “Umm Salamah’s slave girl Barrah drank from it” who came from Habashah with her. The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam replied, “Surely, she has protected herself from the fire with a great wall.”Imam NuruDin Al-Haythami (RA) said, “Its narrators are from the men of Sahih Bukhari.” (Majmauz Zawaaid p.270 & p.271 v.8)

“There is no sword better than Dhul Faqar and no man better than

This saying is attributed to Muhammad Al Baqir (rahimahullah), that on the day of Badr an angel called out “There is no better man than ‘Ali, and no sword better than Zul-Faqar”

However, ‘Allama Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has said that this narration is very weak. Mulla ‘Ali Al Qari (rahimahullah) also mentions that this Hadith has no basis and portrays it as this is an innovation of the Shi’ah. Sa’d ibn Tarif is a narrator of this narration, Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) says he is very weak and that he was a Raafidi (an extremist Shi’i). This Hadith is supporting his corrupt beliefs thus rendering his narration as unacceptable

(See: Al Maqasidul Hasanah: 1307, Al Asrarul Marfu’ah, 595 and Taqribut Tahdhib)

Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has cited a lengthier version of this Hadith which attributes these words to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). However he has declared the text unreliable (munkar).

(Al Bidayah Wan Nihayah, vol. 7 pg. 451)

Note: Dhul Faqar being the name of the sword of Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is proven in other narrations

في الجنة درجة تدعى الوسيلة، فإذا سألتم الله فسلوا لي الوسيلة. قالوا: يا رسول الله، من يسكن معك؟ قال:علي وفاطمة والحسن والحسين

This narration has been recorded through a very weak chain. Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has declared the text of the Hadith unreliable (munkar).

(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Al Maidah, Verse: 35. Refer: Lisanul Mizan, vol. 5 pg. 69)

The narration in question is not suitable to quote.

Translation

There is a level in Jannah called Al Wasilah. When you ask Allah, then request Al Wasilah for me. They asked, ‘O Rasulullah! Who will will live with you [on this level]. He replied, ‘Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husayn’ (radiyallahu ‘anhum).

Note

Al Wasilah being reserved for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has been authentically reported in other Hadiths.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked Jibril (‘alayhis salam): “O Jibril! How old are you?” Jibril replied: “O Messenger of Allah, I don’t know how old I am, but I do know that in the fourth heaven I saw a star shine once every 70 000 years, and I saw this 72 000 times.” Then Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “By the honour of Allah I was that star (Nur).”

This narration appears in certain non primary Hadith books. The Moroccan Hadith Scholar of the recent past, Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al Ghumari (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith a fabrication.

(Murshidul Ha-ir Li Bayani Wad’i Hadhithi Jabir, pg. 30)

The Hadith should therefore not be quoted.

Question

I would like to ask you regarding a hadith that is called “Hadith e Nur” or “Hadith e Jabir”.

It says that the first thing Allah Ta’ala created was the light of the Prophet (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)

What is the authenticity of this Hadith?

Answer

Some secondary sources have referenced this Hadith to Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah).

Currently there are 2 of his books that are published; Al-Musannaf and Tafsuir.

This Hadith doesn’t appear in the current editions of these books.

My Bukhari Teacher; Shaykh Fadlur Rahman A’zami (hafizahullah) had assigned each volume of the Musannaf of Imama ‘Abdur Razzaq to a student who paged through the entire volume. None of them found this Hadith therein.

Other contemporary Hadith Scholars have also said they could not locate this Hadith in Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq’s books.

Refer: Al-Yawaqitul Ghaliyah, vol.2 pg.65-66, vol. pg. & Shaykh ‘Abdullah Siddiq Al-Ghumari’s (rahimahullah) notes on Al-Burdah, pg.75 and At-Ta’liqatul Hafilah ‘alal Ajwibatil Fadilah, pg.129 of Shaykh ‘Abdul Fattah Abu Ghuddah (rahimahullah).

Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has declared that this Hadith has no chain that can be relied upon.

(Al-Hawi, vol.2 Pg.41-43)

My Spiritual mentor, the Grand Mufti Mahmudul Hasan Gangohi (rahimahullah) has also stated that this Hadith hasn’t been passed as authentic, neither does it appear in the authentic Hadith books.

(Fatawa Mahmudiyyah, vol.12 pg.62-64)

In light of the above, this Hadith should not be quoted until its chain can be found and then authenticated.

We need to be very cautious - especially since they are often used in attempts to vilify the truth.

Here's one that didn't make it into the sahihs but was caught on the spot, I can't help smiling at the turn of events even though I know how big a crime the stupid man was commiting by distorting history and more importantly - the words of Allah's Messenger:

Ibnul Jawzee narrated with his own chain of narrators until Ja’far ibn Muhammad at Tayalsee who said:

Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma’een prayed in Masjid ar Rasaafah, after the prayer, a story teller stood saying:

Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma’een narrated to me saying; Abdur Razzaaq ibn Ma’mar narrated to us on the authority of Qataadah that Anas said:

The Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم - said: ‘Whoever says La Ilaha illAllah, then Allah would create a bird with a beak of gold and feathers of pearls from every word…’

He continued telling his story of about twenty pages.

Ahmad ibn Hanbal looked at Yahya ibn Ma’een and Yahya ibn Ma’een looked at Ahmad ibn Hanbal, he said; ‘Have you narrated this to him?!’

He responded: ‘By Allah, I never heard of these narrations until now.’

When he finished his story and received his donations, he sat down waiting for the rest. Yahya ibn Ma’een beckoned for him to approach.

He approached thinking that he would receive some money, Yahya said to him: ‘Who narrated this Hadeeth to you?’

He responded: ‘Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma’een.’

Yahya ibn Ma’een said: ‘I am Yahya ibn Ma’een and this is Ahmad ibn Hanbal and we have never heard of this at all in the Ahadeeth of the the Messenger of Allaah - صلى الله عليه وسلم .

The man said: ‘I’ve been hearing that Yahya ibn Ma’een is a fool, and I haven’t verified this until now. As if there are no other Ahmad ibn Hanbals and Yahya ibn Ma’eens except for the both of you. Indeed I have written Ahadeeth on the authority of seventeen Ahmad ibn Hanbals and Yahya ibn Ma’eens.’

Ahmad ibn Hanbal covered his face with his sleeve and said; ‘Let him go.’

So he got up and left like one belittling them.

(Musnad Bazzar; Al Bahruz Zakkhar, Hadith: 5980)

Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) addressed women and said: “Aren’t you pleased that when a woman falls pregnant through her husband and he is happy with her, she will receive a reward equal to a person fasting in the path of Allah and engaging in ‘ibadah at night in the path of Allah? When she experiences labour pains, the things which are kept in store for her and which will provide her with comfort are not known to all those in the heavens and the earth. Thereafter when the child is born, for every drop of milk that he drinks and each time that he sucks her breast, one reward will be recorded in her favour. When the mother has to wake up at night on account of the child, she will receive the reward of freeing 70 slaves in the path of Allah. O Salamah! Do you know who these women are? They are those who are chaste, pious, obedient to their husbands and are not ungrateful to them.”

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.
(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 6729)

However, the Muhaddithun have declared the Hadith a fabrication. It is therefore not suitable to quote.

Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) said:
“My father collected Hadiths of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and it was five hundred Hadiths. One night, he was very uneasy, tossing and turning much. I also felt uneasy because of this, so I said, ‘Are you turning because of an ailment, or have you heard news that upset you?’ In the morning, he said, ‘O daughter, bring the Hadiths.’ I brought them, and he asked for a flame and burnt them. I said, ‘Why did you burn them?’ He said, ‘I feared lest I die while they are with me containing narrations that I heard from a man whom I trusted and whose narrations I considered to be correct while in reality they are not; then I would have quoted incorrect narrations from him.'”

There is a Hadith in Al Mu’jamul Kabir of Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Allah married me to Maryam, [mother of ‘Isa ‘alayhimas salam] and Kulthum [sister of Musa ‘alayhis salam) and Asiyah (rahimahallah), the wife of Fir’awn, in Jannah.”

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration with two chains. One chain is weak and the other extremely weak.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 5485 and 8006. Refer: Lisanul Mizan, vol. 5 pg. 284, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 9 pg. 218)

After citing other versions of this Hadith, Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) says, ‘All these narrations have defective chains.’

اللهم - إني ضعيف فقو في رضاك ضعفي، وخذ إلى الخير بناصيتي، واجعل الإسلام منتهى رضائي، اللهم إني ضعيف فقوني، وذليل فأعزني، وفقير فارزقني

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once told a Sahabi, ‘O Buraydah! Should I not teach you some words, which when Allah wishes good for someone he [inspires] him with these words, thereafter he will never forget it?’ When he replied in the affirmative, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then instructed him to recite

‘Alalhumma inni dai’fun faqawwi fi ridaka da’fi, wa khudh ilal khayri binasiyati waj’alil Islama muntaha rida’i Allahumma inni da’ifun faqawwini wa dhalilun fa a’izzani wa faqirun farzuqni‘

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 29965, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 527, Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 6585)

However, the chain consists of an extremely weak narrator. ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared him very weak. In fact, some Muhaddithun like Imam Yahya ibn Ma’in (rahimahullah) have declared him a liar.

(Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 5 pg. 33, Taqribut Tahdhib, 7181, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 182. Also see: Al Matalibul ‘Aliyah, Hadith: 3348)

Question

I would like to ask if the following hadith is authentic (I have not quoted the hadith)

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam once complained to angel Jibril alayhis salaam that he could not perform relations often so angel jibril alayhis salaam asked him why he would not take harisa since in it was the strength of 40 men

In the name of Allah the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

Answer

This is a fabricated hadith. It is, in fact, slander upon the prophet and nothing short of at an attempt to defame him.

We learn through many authentic hadith how strong the prophet ) صلّ الله عليه و سلّم ( was in this regard.
Furthermore, scholars agree Allah) سبحانه و تعالى ( did not send any messenger with any defect which people universally disdain and look down upon.
As for the fabricated narration you have quoted, it has been narrated with a few separate wordings and chains. Not a single chain is reliable. It is narrated by Tabari and by Ibn Adee in his Kamil and ibn jawzi mentions it in his Maudooaat.

Here is one of the narrations.

Asma, Allah be pleased with him, narrated that Revelation was being sent down to the Prophet ‏:saws: and his head was on the lap of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, :ra: ; and he had not prayed Asr as of yet and the sun was starting to set at that moment.

The Prophet ‏:saws: asked: “O ‘Ali have you prayed [Asr yet]?”
He replied: “No.”

Thus, at this occurrence the Prophet ‏:saws: made a plea in the court of Allah :swt1: , supplicating:

“O Lord, he, Ali, was busy in service of You and your Messenger, therefore return the sun back for him [so he can pray Salat].”

Asma, Allah be pleased with her, said:

I saw the sun starting to set, but then I saw it rise back up again and daylight became visible upon the mountains and the land around it.

It is known that this incident took place near Khaybar.

Extra Note:

Related by Imam Jalaluddin al-Suyuti, who said:

“This is Hassan/good and Imam Ibn Jawzi tried to say it was fabricated but he was mistaken.” (Related in the Tafsir al-Durr al-Manthur fi Tafsir bil-Ma’thur/The Scattered Pearls: Inter-textual Exegesis}

Hafiz Ibn Hajar Asqalani said in his explanation of Sahih al-Bukhari – Fath al-Bari:

“‘Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Jawzi were mistaken when they called this Hadith fabricated.”

Imam al-Tabarani also narrates that the narration is authentic in his book – Mu’jam al-Kabir)
