Why Islam prohibits pork meat

Islam prohibits pork because pigs consume filth and its meat hosts a number of diseases.

According to investigation by Consumer Reports, 69 percent of all raw pork samples tested — nearly 200 samples in total — were contaminated with the dangerous bacteria Yersinia enterocolitica, which causes fever and gastrointestinal illness with diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. The pork also tested positive for other contaminants, including the controversial drug ractopamine, which is banned in many parts of the world, including China and Europe. Worst of all, many of the bacteria found in the pork were resistant to multiple antibiotics, making treatment, should you fall ill, all the more problematic and potentially lethal.
According to the featured report: "We found salmonella, staphylococcus aureus, or listeria monocytogenes, more common causes of foodborne illness, in 3 to 7 percent of samples. And 11 percent harbored enterococcus, which can indicate fecal contamination and can cause problems such as urinary-tract infections."

Muslims simply do not eat pork or pork products because Allah :swt: has prohibited it.
He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah.” (Quran 2:173)

Sometimes we may never know or understand why Allah :swt: has ordained some things and prohibited others. In the case of pork, no specific reason for the prohibition is given except in Quran 6:145 when Allah :swt: says, in reference to the flesh of swine (pig), “for that surely is impure”. A Muslim submits to Allah’s commands willingly, without needing to know the reason behind the divine rule. Moreover, Allah has expressly stated that a believer hears the words of his Lord and obeys them.
‘We hear and we obey.’ And such are the successful (who will live forever in Paradise).” (Quran 24:51)

It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.” (Quran 33:36)

A believer understands that Allah :swt: is the Most Wise and the Most Just; therefore, His rules are designed to benefit us in our daily needs, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual. The Creator knows the best way for His creation to live in this world and prepare for the next.
