The hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (5889) and Muslim (257) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The fitrah is five things – or five things are part of the fitrah – circumcision, shaving the pubes, cutting the nails, plucking the armpit hairs, and trimming the moustache."

In this Hadith, is the circumcision mentioned referring to both male and female circumcision?

Also why do some islamic schools of thought say that female circumcision is obligatory? As far as I know, female circumcision is supposed to be optional.

:salam:

Does trimming the moustacheapply to both genders? No, the hadith is referring to the males.

Female circumcision is optional and some have said it's not good to do it either based on how it is done in some parts of the world (mutilation).
