I suppose someone would say so. But it is only sunnah and not fard, and it's recommended for making important life choices. Also, one does not just pray and hope for a magic response. The right away of doing it is to on your own homework and get all the information you can to make a well informed decision and once you have done that and are ready to make that decision then you pray Allah to guide you in making the right decision. These days, someone mentions a proposal and people run and do istakhirah without doing any due diligence on their part. That's not how it works.

So with that said, the best thing to do is see which topics the teacher stressed more and focus on those more but also be a bit aware of the other topics as well.

But should I do it when the time of the exam comes or whenever I want . Like imagine I have the exam in July and now is April . Can I pray it now or until the time comes ?

I suppose you could, nothing really prohibits it. I"m just saying we should use common sense and intellect given to us and not just pray for miracles. The prophet :saws1: did say to tie your camel first and then put your trust on Allah. He wants us to do our part too and work for it.

Study and Pray go hand in hand.

Istikhara is more for assisting you before you make a decision. So if you've got an option for an exam for English, and the options are Shakespeare or Jane Eyre then you may want to make istikhara before you make a decision.

Hope that helps.

What exams do you have btw?

Yes, you can.

My friend and I go out to eat after ishaa. We both do an Istikhaara for which place we should go to.

The food turns out excellent every time.

You ask Allaah for everything.

Imagine you want to revise several subjects. You do not know in which order to revise them. Make a decision and do an Istikhaara for it.

This will also accustom you to doing Isitikhaara.

Then, when major life decisions pop up, doing Istikhaara will be second nature.

Assalamu alaikum !!
I have another doubt regarding istikhara prayer . Is it obligatory to have a *decision* in mind and then pray it or not .
Like imagine if I don't have any decision made . What should I do ? .

My exams have two options : option A and option B. But they don't really tell you what you will have in each option . So I don't know how should I make a decision on it .

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say inshallah
