My cousin recently told me that he is depressed and has lost all hope in life. He cried and broke down and told me his story. So basically he had a lot of problems in life and he wasn't patient. He instead complained and got angry with Allah. Now he recently got afflicted with a much worse punishment and he is in severe regret. He wishes he could go back to his old hardship and be thankful and patient. But all the verses and hadith he read shows no hope for him to be forgiven and go to jannah. I'm really concerned about him and his condition. The verse below described him and he is in serious trouble. I don't know what to tell him. Please somebody give me advice. Thank you.

And among mankind is he who worships Allah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter. That is the evident loss.}-

^o) what hadith say he will never be forgiven? This simply isn't true. Instead of wallowing in his misery, your cousin should be learning about Allah, his love and his mercy. Of course there is a "chance" for him. It will be up to him to sincerely repent for his wrong doings and changing the way he sees Allah.

Don't give the ayat your own interpretation. If you want to know the meaning of this ayah then read the tafsir.

Allah will forgive you as long as you do not give up hope of His mercy and forgiveness. Allah says, "Certainly no one despairs of Allah's mercy except the people who disbelieve" [Surah Yoosuf 12:87].

Does the person in question consider himself a Muslim? If the answer is yes then he can't give up hope in Allah.

this show us the mistake we do but don't tells us that we have no Chance to repay because at the end of the day he did a mistake or sin but as long as he feel sorry about what he did and regret than for sure Allah will forgive him subhanah
( 53 ) Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
so if he make sincere repentance than Allah will forgive him
and he shouldn't despair from the mercy of Allah

But the verse says he will lose both this world and the next world. Is there really still hope?

Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said:

“All the sons of Aadam make mistakes; but the best of those who make mistakes are those who frequently repent.” (Tirmidhi)

Allah is all merciful and forgiving as he stated in the Glorious Quran:

“And verily, I am indeed forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My oneness, and associates non in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them (till his death).”(Taa Haa :82)

So instead of grieving over what he has done, that isn't pleasing to Allah, you cousin should rather do fast and seek Allah's forgiveness. But to seek forgiveness you have to do it the right way. You don't just say I repent and that will be all. Insha-Allah, there are guidelines and conditions to follow before Allah can accept your repentance. Bellow link will take you to the resource that will help you repent sincerely Insha Allah:

HOW TO REPENT TO ALLAH FOR FORGIVENESS OF ALL SINS
