Hello all,

For the past couple of years I have been experiencing excruciating ear pain while wearing the hijab as well as when sleeping on my sides, due to this I wake up constantly throughout the night. I have seen several doctors all of which have said that there doesn’t seem to be any problem with my ears. This lead to my seeing a specialist, he concluded that due to lack of air entering and existing my ears are not being allowed to clean themselves and the balance is thrown off, and I will continue to be in pain.
I am unsure of what to do, as life is becoming harder and harder to bare, has anyone else experienced this?

Assalamu alaikum,

Is the pain in the outer ear (cartilage) or inner ear?

salam. This is the first time am hearing about such thing. I don't think this is because of the hijab, but of course, maybe you are fixing your hijab too tight in a way your veins get hurt. Trying fixing in a different way.

Tide your hijab looser and use thinner materials. Then your ears get enough air. If it doesn´t stop the pain, go back to the doc.

Asalaamualaykum:

The simple covering of the ear is not sufficient to alter the pressure in ones ear. Had this been the case thousands of people wearing warm Beanie Hats would have pressure issues. The reason they call it ENT is because the Throat is also a mechanism that assists in the retaining the pressure in ones ear. So a simple blocking of the outer ear will not in many cases have ramifications on pressure. It probably explains why the Specialist cannot conclude anything.

Having said that - A solution of hijab is available for your condition.
One of which being -
You can wear a Turban to roll your hair inside - then drape a scarf over the turban, almost covering your Ear and neck area to the best of your ability.

Wasalaam.

Have you tried doing Ruqya (healing and treatment with the Quran)?

I get ear pain in winter..

Although i know it is because i sit next to a slush machine.

Which is like sitting next to a cold fan in winter.

I dont know where you live but try putting the heating on if its within reason.

...if you live in a hot part of the world.. i dont know o_o

Maybe try a warm compress anyway.

It’s inner ear, a white hot pain. And I have tried different methods of covering, lighter material, even wearing a hoodie for a couple of hours starts the pain. The pain begins usually 2hours into wearing it, also when sleeping on either side for more than two hours. At first doctors thought it may be sinuses so they put me on several medications, when it persisted they thought it was my wisdom teeth putting pressure on my ears, so I removed them but a year later and it’s still continuing.

How have you established its the inner ear and not the middle ear ?- most people wouldn't know the difference.
So according to this -

it was first possibly a pressure problem

then..

it became Sinuses

then...

it became wisdom tooth issue

?

And to put the cherry on top - even the lightest of materials (Which will total up to just a mere grams ) somehow .....causes this pain?

I'm trying to get perspective here.
