If you miss prayers because you didn't bother to do them. Would the thing that you are doing be considered haram (even if it's a halal activity like spending time with family) or would the missing of the prayer be an independent sin?

Prayer are most important, because God has Made it one of the five pillars of Islam, so it is sinful to delay for any reason as long as you believe it is important prayers, then it is sinful.
