View Full Version : Why is it that Muslim men are allowed to marry Christians or Jews?

So, if men can marry women of different faith, why can't women marry either a Christian or Jewish man? And how does that work out?

How can it work out if you marry a Christian or Jewish woman when obviously Muslims don't eat pork or drink alcohol whereas Christians do, and both faiths have similarities but also are very different. Would you want to marry a woman that has lost their virginity even if they're a good match for you, is that allowed ?

Firstly, men are allowed because that is what Allah Azza wa Jal ordained. Secondly, Islam always has to be in a position of authority and if a Muslim woman was to marry a Jew or Christian they would be in a position of authority. And Allah Knows Best.

And I can tell you from experience from my first marriage, marrying someone of different faiths is a conflict on interest to say the least.

The people of the Book believe in the same God and therefore come under the umbrella of believers and therefore Allah has allowed marriage to them. However, it comes with conditions and not a free reign to go marry anyone. Allah says "And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you", so they have to be chaste, which is a rarity these days given that dating and fornication starts at as young as 8 years of age in the western culture.

Secondly, the right of the Muslimahs comes first since they are allowed to marry only Muslim men. If there are enough Muslim men in the community for all the Muslim women of marriage age then they could marry from people of the book, otherwise the priority and right of the Muslim women comes first.

Asalamu Alaikum

Because Allah said so.

Another possible reason is that since men typically take charge of the household, it would be difficult for a Muslim women marrying a kafir man to ensure her children are Muslim, where as if the roles are reversed the man can have relative ease in ensuring the child grows up to be a Muslim as he dominates the family.

Why it's not feasible for a muslimah to marry a Christian man is that he can't be a true Christian until he denies prophet s.a.w and many of them even commit blasphemy as well. Shirk, pork, drink is common thing in their society; therefore, this anti Islamic ambiance will make her life like in hell.

On the other side you can't be a true Muslim until you accept Jesus a.s as a prophet.

And even a Muslim can't compel his Christian wife to accept Islam.
