Salaam,
I heard from somewhere that while music is playing, you have to have the Quran covered. Any truth to this? Just trying to be sure. Also, can you recite Quran or dua while music is in the background.

Music is considered impermissible in Islam, so if one has the control they should not voluntary play it.

There's no basis to covering the Quran while music is playing. I've never heard of this absurdity ;D

In regards to reciting and making du'a, it would be best to be in a quiet place of worship so you can concentrate on your worship. https://islamqa.info/en/193559
