Salam all
So i very foolishly took an oath by saying wallah. I feel terrible.
My mum came in, and i was on my phone. She was like "you're always on that phone etc" she was gonna take ir off of me , and i said "no! I was texting ( insert persons name). ( insert oath sworn here) she didnt take it off me. I wasnt texting the person tho. I was looking at something on the internet. BEFORE i was looking at tge internet i was infact texting the person. However when she walked in i wasnt texting , and i said i was. So im assuming that counts as a lie.
Now i was looking at the types of oath, and these are the three i found:
(heres a copy and paste job)
1)Yamin Gamus: is such an oath where a person has done something, and he knows that he has done it, and then he knowingly swears that he has not done it. This is false swearing and it is a major sin in Islam. There is no kaffarah necessary for Yamin Gamus. However, tawbah (repentance) and istighfaar (seeking forgiveness) are necessary.

2)Yamin Laghwe (Ineffectual Oath). The second form is that someone declares an oath that a past event was true, as based on his knowledge while it was actually false. This category of oath does not bring a kaffarah and nor a sin.

3)Yamin Munaqidah (Binding oath). The third form of oath is that one declares on oath that he would or would not do something in the future. In the event the oath is broken, kaffarah becomes necessary. (Maariful Quran p.242-p.24

Im assuming what i did fell under the first or second type of oath?
I'm also fasting today( double whammy, i know, i feel awful) does this mean my fast has been invalidated?

You said no I was texting...
So it depends what you meant by the word "was" because you did text her
But if you meant "was" as in exactly when she walked in the room that would be a lie and fall under category 1 because you did know you were lying

Actions are completed with their intentions

Allahualam

I'm referring to the 'was' when you told your mum you 'was' texting

I'm not sure that I'm making sense to you

If you were texting and you swore that you were texting then you didnt lie, if she didnt ask if you were doing anything else you just withheld some Truth ? i dont know if your obliged to tell her the whole Truth or not, if she didnt ask?

I call it being economical with the Truth..And i suppose its all down to intention whether its a sin or not?

I like to think little sins like that would be forgiven to aware God conscious people that pray if the only intention was to keep your phone.

I suppose it all depends on the exact words used, but i suppose if you knew you were lying , you were lying..but prehaps its more of a deception that a lie as what you said was technicly true and may be its a lesser sin and need not repent so hard..
