Salaam Alaikum

My sister is trans and has undergone surgery and hormone therapy to look like a boy. What should I do in this situation? Should I inform her of her grave sin and ask her to repent or should I cut off contact?

Should I be accepting of her choice? Should I love her anyway?

Thank you.

Wa'alaikum as'salaam,

What she has done is changing the creation of Allah, a grievous sin. What you should do is inform her of the wrong she has done and help her understand how it is wrong. She will need knowledge of the deen in order for her to understand the gravity of her situation and the need to repent and so that her repentance is sincere as well her actions to remedy the situation.

You should help see the error of her ways and help fix it and get through it. She will need your support, not cutting of contact or ties. You should never be accepting of her choice because it's haram and against Islam. But you should still love her because she is still a muslim and a sibling and she needs your help not pushing her away. Also make duas for her that Allah give her hidaya in this matter.

Here's some resources to share with her inshallah :

Be careful not to push her away don't forget she is still you're sister, a Muslim and you love her

May Allah make it for you both a vice to jannahtul firduas

I'm not a Muslim but I have a couple questions for Abu4. Do you think your sister doesn't know it's a sin in Islam? It would have taken months from the time she started to think about it before surgery was scheduled. AIUI, in some countries, she'd have to have psychologoical counseling first. In other words, if she already knows, why should you tell her again and likely hurt your relationship. If she doesn't know, a) but she's had surgery, it might be irreversible, so what is the point of telling her at all? To make her feel bad? b) If someone is to tell her, it seems like it would be better that it's not someone in the family.
