View Full Version : What’s the ruling on listening and playing a song on a different type of instrument i

I’m asking this because, I heard of a Hadith saying something like this:

“Musical instruments of Satan in the house of the Prophet?”

And in another verse saying that the Prophet said, “there will be among the Muslim nation that will purchase musical instruments etc... and on the Day of Resurrection they’ll be turned in different types of animals”

What is that suppose to mean? It means that I’m not allowed to listen to my favorite songs? Or to make songs? If it is prohibited then, why God does Make for some people to have talent on different type of music? Why do we have opera? I always thought that music is good for our brains so that our brains can relax and also in the same time can learn new things. Why do some people have good voices for singing and some they don’t have at all?

Is there any uncorrupted Hadith saying that using musical instruments and singing is good as long as they don’t send bad message?

So, these girls were actually praising and taking the Prophet as their god?

When I listen to a music, I usually listen to one of Michael Jackson’s songs, sometimes Rock and sometimes dubstep. Are they ok to listen?

What I've got an understanding from Fatima, that the lyrics matters.
Unless you haven't got any negative illusions or feelings, listening music would be fine.
Make sure you are not harming any human around you from any act.

Walaikum Asalam

They already did. Musical instruments are haram, only a minority of scholars consider percussion based instruments permissible.

On the contrary, the website is actually the best or one of the best at providing in depth fiqh issues to the general muslim masses.

You need to fear Allah and stop spreading your falsehood

Salam brother,

Using the words "fear Allah" in order to silence people is never a good idea (only when the person has arrogance or is calling for evil while being consciously aware of it, is ok). So even if brother Zafran was wrong (which i personally dont believe that he is), it would be very unwise to silences him because if we dont let people share their information (whether right or wrong) we will never be able to correct their misunderstandings or wrong information. Even if he was mistaken (which again, i dont think that he his), he is not being arrogant or purposely trying to lead people astray.

With regards to IslamQA. I do admit ... there are many times where the fatwas they give and the evidences they provide are very beneficial and helpful to the muslim masses. However, more often than not, these guys when asked about personal cases or even general ones, would give fatwas that seem very close minded and fanatical. It is sometimes hard to believe the things they share and the amount of intolerance towards others who oppose their beliefs in some of their fatwas are coming from fellow muslims that practice the religion of peace and mercy.

Mashallah, those guys at IslamQA have massive knowledge in islam and all. No one denies that, but when they come to implementing their knowledge of islam with the real world, they fail miserably! Why? because they detach themselves so hard from the world they dont understand how it works and how people respond to things. Thus they fail to convince people with the truth and fail to encourage them to integrate islam into their lives. Even though it is the truth. Issuing a fatwa is not that easy and simple. There are a lot of other aspects you should consider other that the islamic point of view of the surface level issue. Often times these issues run way deeper than those posing the questions would have you believe, yet those guys at QA simply address the symptom rather than the disease. Basically its like cutting an entire limb instead of administering antibiotics to the infected area and waiting for results.

There are other fewer cases where those guys misinterpreted hadiths or ayaat to prohibit things that not meant to be prohibited and vise versa, which is a way bigger problem that what i previously mentioned. You can even look up those cases about IsalmQA yourself if you dont believe me. Its not the best. These guys have protective jealousy for their religion, which anyone should, but its over protect! And being over protective can lead to and cause a negative effect than what they are looking for.

And about the issue of music and what not. It is indeed like what brother Zzz_ said in another thread ... Its like beating a dead horse now (the issue of music).

Here is the actual deal ...

There are those who claim that music and/or singing is 100% haram. Those people chose to ignore all the evidences brought forth by those who claim music is halal.
And there are those who claim music and/or singing is 100% halal and choose to ignore all the evidences and proof of the others who are against music bring forth.

Both are wrong to ignore one another. But when it comes to who is more correct than the other ... id have to say ... the proof of prohibition doesnt hold that strong once you analyse it in depth.
And simply citing it over and over wont magically make it become more true. Otherwise get a more reasonable and meaningful argument, then we will talk.
