Napolean himself had a pretty positive view of Islam, and tried to form an alliance with Tipu Sultan (the last powerful Muslim ruler from and of the Indian sub-continent). He even criticised Voltaire's slander of Rasulullah (peace be upon him).

I think the decline of the Islamic power started with the second unsuccesful siege of Vienna of the Ottomans in 1683. Ottomans lost a huge territory in central Europe in 15 years after this battle which ended up with the treaty of Karlowitz in 1699 between the Holy Roman-German empire and Ottomans. In 1700s, 1800s and 1900s with the help of the scientific and technological advencements and political tactics the western world invaded the majority of Islamic world and here we are. Same goes on in this century.

We regained Egypt from the French after that but later lost to Britain.
