Which house? He had several wives and each of them had a room which was attached to the masjid. Aisha’s house was used as his burial site and the remaining rooms were broken down and incorporated into the masjid later on. The masjid doesn’t belong to anyone, so technically the houses weren’t given to charity per se, but they were given up for the use of the Muslims.

No, as the saying of Abu Bakar ra (Bukhari) clarified that the property of prophet s.a.w (including rooms of wives of prophet s.a.w) was sadaqa, however, it could be used by his family but it's not inherited.

Abu Bakr ra said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “We (Prophets) are not to be inherited from, and whatever we leave behind is charity. Rather the family of Muhammad may live on this wealth (that belongs to Allah).”

Can someone explain significance of events surrounding inheritance from a historic perspective around time of beloved Prophets (SAW) death? Who are family of Prophet and did they inherit anything?
