Which major should I choose?

Assalamu alaikum brothers. I am homeschooled and 15 years old studying his A levels in the UK. I had a few questions about choosing a major.

I want to study something that will help the ummah and also be related to physics. So engineering looks good to me. But which one?

I dont want to go into medicine or any arts fields. I was considering materials engineering. I want to do something that the ummah is lacking in and will need in the future. Jazakallah

Mechanical engineering has lots of physics.

You could also try mechatronics engineering which has a mix of mechanical engineering, which has a lot of physics, and eletrical engineering, which has physics, and other elements for such things as robotics.

or how about electrical engineering?

Assalamu alaikum brother. Thank you for replying to my question. I am the 1st of 5 children and all of us have been taught to serve the ummah regardless of what happens in our life. Both my sisters have been told to study medicine so that they can assist muslim women. My youngest brother wants to be a pharmacist so that he can help muslims in the world with his medicine. My second brother wants to be an Electronic engineer to assist the ummah. And we all HAVE to study at Oxford university for good education. Mechanical engineering is something I have considered but I find that there are too many people who are muslims themselves are taking part in it. Computer Sceintists will have no value for their knowledge after a few years because technology advances all the time.


Should I go with materials Engineering? As I dont think that there are many muslims in this field and it will assist the ummah well.

well, that depends on what the job market is like. that is an important field as the chemical structure of materials can be very important in developing new technologies. i recommend it, brother.

and by that i mean in your country, cause i dont know where you live. so do a quick search and make sure there isn't an oversupply.

and by oversupply i mean more job seekers than jobs available and you would run the risk of unemployment.

Jazakallah for replying to my message brother. I am originally from India but live in the UK. I want to be self employed and start my own business to manufacture new things. From one sided bulletproof glass to super suits and super boots. From hydro gels and medicines to food technology. Materials Science has endless uses and Forbes has said that it is yet to take the world by storm.


And moreover Oxford offers a materials science course which has entrepreneurial modules. This is the latest degree they introduced.
