The sister has given valuable advice. Alhamdulilah.
1.
Know that Allah is always near with you. "And indeed We have created man, and We know whatever thoughts his inner self develops, and We are closer to him than (his) jugular vein.” (Quran 50:16)
2. There isn't anyone who will not be tested. The most righteous, including the prophets were tested.
Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, "We believe", and that they will not be tested? (
Surah Al-Ankabut, 2)
Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, (
Surah Al-Baqara, 155)

Ponder upon the signs of His Creation; the sun, the moon, the stars, oceans, mountains, birds in the sky
.... Also, do things which will cause enjoyment. There isn't anything wrong seeking happiness in this world (good and halal) . Audible.com is a good website for discovering interesting and educational books that you can listen. Also, especially when in doubt about Allah's love or mercy, the Quran is the best book to seek guidance and reassurance, reading His words will definitely be uplifting.
