i have two options:
I could continue to go to my local university while doing classes online until the pandemic is either not taken as much of a threat or the vaccine is ready, and wait 2.5 years. Major in economics, free mix and get into drama occasionally or lust occasionally while being insecure about my situation and youth, and risk getting a riba based finance job, but there are other finance jobs. or fail to get a research heavy job cause im not that good of a student (I'm an absent minded, at times lazy genius) and graduate school doesn't pay well and I want to be secure in my finances as i get married. Or get a tech job I'm not that interested in, OR
go to an online program which is FAR more expensive as it's in another U.S. state and I risk getting rejected due to my low undergraduate GPA, but I have a better High school GPA and test scores and I could improve with my summer class and I checked my chances online I technically am better than a quarter of those accepted. major in chemical engineering, since a part of me has always leaned STEM, but in something I know nothing about except my childhood fascination in one physical science class with a teacher others regarded as boring and I got a B, and general fascination from a distance with chemistry and biology and physics. it pays more, good upward mobility, but so is finance, even more so. But, i plan on becoming an at home office worker, perhaps data entry, to fund my school, so it would be a good motivation, but my mother is dismissive but will likely say yes but my dad will probably say no as he doesn't buy into the idea that riba is haram because he studies it for a living as an academic. my mother, too, but she's more respectful. and working part time wont pa totally for the university, working full time and working in a major as hard as engineering will be hard. and it will delay my marriage and i struggle with the secret habit.

Whichever you feel will help you lead a better Islamic life. Do that one. Don't pursue something which can cause problems in the akhira

the sheikh at the nearest masjid said there are muftis at two other masjids who can determine if an insurance company meets islamic guidelines, and if it is halal to work for them as an actuary. I could try that. Or I could work as an economist.

Whatever you do, just stay AWAY from riba. its quite scary on how much of a major sin it is. I'm so scared because I am having some conflicting options with Uni because I might risk getting into riba but then I'll have to quit halfway through school if I know that I'll be dealing with riba. Its hard because my family is pressuring me with this too. We don't have much money so it's pretty hard dealing with these financial situations since my parents are already in so much riba based debt

I found a way to work while paying tuition inshaAllah, soon, without riba. And I'm switching my major to physics.

I would advise you to get a God fearing sheikh involved if they blackmail you like my parents did before, but if they dont, try explaining to them gently and kindly.

Alhamdulilah you got away from riba.

My parents definitely wouldn't blackmail me. There sure will be some drama though. It must've been hard when your parents did that. Quite messed up
