can I skip prayer for a few weeks or months until it goes away and then make qadha? I am trying to overcome a porn and masturbation addiction and the urges get strong at night. i can't feel who i am. i can not focus. i am very anxious. i often feel suicidal.

I do not know what is allowed or not allowed but the idea of skipping out on prayers is very counterproductive. Why or how would that help? I'd think not praying would make it easier to give in to your urges as opposed to fighting them.

You feel so lost and so far away from yourself. Don't disconnect further by stopping your prayers. Your confusion and despair are almost tangible. The one that can really carry you through this all is the one you pray to. Everyone else can only support it encourage you along the way.

Allah is with you in these times. And he knows us better than we do ourselves. It's very hard and you want it to stop but allah wrote this test for you for a reason.

To stop praying is breaking one of the most important bonds you can have with the creator, not to mention failing your obligation as a muslim. Why would you do that? I don't think you'd feel any better for it afterwards.

Suicidal feelings/thoughts are so serious... please reach out to someone who can help. There are so many resources. Skilled people who can actually give you proper help. Please do not be afraid or ashamed to call or tell someone around you what is going on! Anyone! Let the people who are around you know that you are not doing good at all. Don't worry about what they might think, it's important to take action. Positive and productive action.

I pray for you because it's all I can do. Allah will see you through this. انشالله soon

I would advise against skipping prayers too. It will take you further away from deen, there is no substitute.

If you want to improve yourself and get closer to your deen, maintain your daily salaah, even if you think it's better to do otherwise...

The constant reminder of Allah swt will help you...

Not sure how old you are and I can totally understand the urges.. Totally.

What do the scholars say:

Do not be wasteful
Excessive masturbation should be avoided.
They also advise to 'fast'... Why? I think when you fast, your need and bodily desires becomes about 'food', prayer more than anything else.
Do not masturbate using porn as a trigger, porn itself is haraam.

Masturbation In moderation is somewhat allowed on a makrooh basis.. When an individual feels they have no choice or if it helps avoids a major sin.

Please watch the below video.

Although these may not be the ultimate answers for you, they are good advice with a view of helping Individuals like yourself.

It is tough being a young man and not married and handling such bodily Impulses.

Having such impulses are normal, be grateful you do get those impulses like most normal healthy human beings. However do not misuse it, as there may be a time in the future where you won't be able to stimulate yourself naturally.

Issues around suicide.... Brother everyone has ups and downs.
Suicide is forbidden in our religion. That body is not yours to make that decision. You are responsible yes but you can't end it at your own will. You will be held accountable for that. So why have that feeling in the first place. Logically it is wrong.

Underlying issues around suicide need to be handled separately. Overcome that and then you will regain feelings of purpose, self esteem and confidence.

@SintoDinto .. Hmmm do you need to reconcile the blessings you have at the moment... Sure there's loads of things you have that you can show gratitude for... Show it via your actions to Allah swt.. Get into the habit of it. You will appreciate it more I hope.

If you want to PM me, happy to talk you through it. I'll try my best to help. Where you are... I have also ''been' in a similar sense.

May Allah swt make it easy for you.
It's good that you reached out.. May Allah swt instil guidance in you to help you with your dilemma.... Insh Allah.

Please remember me and everyone else in your prayers..
Keep praying your daily salaah and then pray for yourself, your family and all of us after each Salaah.

Jazak Allah!

I am not allowed by the mods to send messages due to my previous trolling. However, we can discuss here. I was inspired to stop masturbating in part due to Islamic belief and in part due to a community started by non muslims known as nofap, which claims health benefits both physical and mental after becoming used to not watching porn and not masturbating, though they said there would be side effects initially in a withdrawal process. what i was going through in this post is over, it went away quickly, but i am suffering from odd symptoms here and there. but i feel better today and can sleep better alhamdulillah. the community even claims that not masturbating (regardless of if people know) makes you more attractive to women for scientific reasons they cite. now, i have no intention of committing zina and i probably dont want to date, even if it be a kitaabi, in a more formal fashion, and im trying to avoid unnecessary talk ideally, but getting respect from women and getting approached was ONE of the motivating factors as I believed it would boost my confidence even if I eventually said no, since I suffer from low self esteem and depression.

cool, learned something new today. 'NoFap'

glad you come to terms with your masterbation. You should do regular exercise, even if its a really slow paced walk, exert some energy for the sake of exercise and endurance, set targets n milestones along the way, you know 'tire' the body,, eat healthy, then in the night, you'll sleep well insh Allah
Now focus on negative energy,, need to get rid, Replace it with hope, faith and positivity.... watch your self esteem and confidence grow....

tests make us mentally stronger. you start to look at your life from different angles when you eventually manage to put the negative lens aside..

thank you, brother, and im up to 25 pushups and 24 situps, and my muscles are getting stronger every day, my mother claims, and I am noticing the results, as did my social worker. I really do need to cut the fast food, though, so I'll take your advice. cutting sugar will be harder though, but I'll see what I can do. I'll pray for you, brother, may Allah reward you for your help, as well. :)

Brother what do you mean by depersonalization/derealization anxiety? Is this caused by addiction or is it something you had?

I think the more heavy you carry, the more reason you should pray. Never cease to pray as this is the strongest weapon we have to fight our battles.
