Muslim Aid is easing the sufferings of Kenyans affected by a severe drought, which is threatening the lives of about 2.5 million people in the country at the risk of famine.

Farmers and cattle are dying in the northern part of the country. So far, scores of people, mainly children, have already died.

There is a great risk of widespread starvation because seasonal rains failed for the second time in a year. The Kenyan government has declared a national disaster, and the local media reported 50 fatalities, though the actual death toll is though to be higher.

The price of staple food has soared in most parts of the affected regions, while the price of livestock has dropped. The situation is likely to deteriorate, as rain is not expected to fall until April.

Aid workers want to tackle the drought before it develops into a famine.

“Mothers and children are suffering from malnutrition and death of livestock is occurring on a large scale,” said Farooq Murad, chairman of Muslim Aid. “Food, water and medicine are our immediate priorities right now.”

Muslim Aid is co-operating with the Kakamenga Muslim Teachers Welfare group and the Islamic Foundation of Kenya to provide emergency food and medical aid to those affected in northern Kenya.

Greetings and peace sonz,

These people just need so much help and maybe there are ways to bring people of many faiths working together.

Our Catholic Church is working alongside our local Anglican Church to support a School in Kware, Kenya, and we also support a medical project there as well.

The poor need justice from the rich

God bless

Eric
