The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) received an apology from the host of a Los Angeles radio show who made fun of the Hajj stampede that killed hundreds of Muslims last month.

At least 363 pilgrims were killed and hundreds wounded in the Jan. 12 deadly stampede during the devil-stoning ritual.

The U.S.-based rights group demanded an official apology from KFI-AM 640 host Bill Handel, who made fun of the pilgrims’ deaths during a segment he called the "Annual Stampede Report."

CAIR says that Handel imitated the pilgrims screaming and then joked that Muslims should use a helicopter to monitor Hajj traffic, as is done in Los Angeles with the freeways.

According to CAIR, Handel apologized on his Wednesday program. He said "The wound was very fresh for a lot of Muslims and the comments were out of line. And for that, I am sorry."
