I was reading the rebuttal to misquoted verses in the polemic section on this site, mashallah its a very good idea
I'm kind of confused on this one verse. its regarding Misquoted verse Number 6, And slay them wherever ye catch them.." (2:191)

And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in God; but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression

Now i think i have misunderstood this verse, why does it say Fight them until there prevails justice and trust in God, ie fight them until they ecome muslim. Isn't this kind of suggesting spreading islam by sword
the last part of the section i have quoted thoguh says let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression, ie faith doesn't matter, as long as they don't oppress. So can someone plz explain which one it is, because it either seems islam encourages spread by force, or it seems contradicting

Jazakallah Khair

Also the following verse i may have again misunderstood

But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah. and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge.
In bold above it says "but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them"
Doesn't this again suggest spreading by force, because the verse is basically saying if they become a muslim then they are safe?

If the people continue to show hostility, injustice and oppression, then they are fought until their is only justice and submission to God. But if they desist from their hostilities, then Muslims are not allowed to commit agression.

Read the verse right after it.

I don't translate myself, I consult other translations. Can you tell us what you are referring to before criticising?
