What subjects do u like/hate?

For me i do bio, chem, computing, maths A level and communications enrichment (level 3). I like all of them hence the reason y i picked them.

In school, I didnt used to like Food technology (wasnt my cup of tea, lol) and graphics/art much. My geography teacher could have liteally made u sleep within 5 mins. And wasnt too good at france (french) either...Apart from these, rest weren't bad...what about u?

Oh, I had a bad food tech lesson on Tuesday

. My melting moments caught fire in the oven and this girl burnt her finger trying to save them.

Luckily, we didn't have to evacuate or anything

And then she gave me a 5c or something and goes "Better luck next time"

dont get me wrong - i loved playing the games i just hated the actual lesson cus we had annoying fellow students and they were real stoopid - ok so they could kick a ball around but they were the classic jocks - great in pe and totally thick in every other subject...oh yeah..they also happened to be the most aggressive people i had ever met. I h8d being on their team and hardly any of my friends were in same PE class as me so that took the mick.

you might not like school, but alhamdulilah everyone needs the education to succeed in this world especially if one is a male they need to work to provide for their familes, and that's where education kicks in. Not everyone likes school, and I know myself that school is a bit aggrivaing or too stressful for me at times. Therefore, I look at in the beneficail way. Without school we cannot learn how to read or write. Without reading we cannot learn about islam. We wouldn't be able to read the quran, unless arabic is your native language. So then again these are our shortcomings.

i know like for maths we should only have to have done the things you come across daily
like addition subtraction multiplication and division. percentages fractions shares.

and the rest should be optional/additional to those who will need it :)

You don't like school much, do you? Are there any subjects you do like?

With regard to the reason for learning history, it's common for all nations to teach their history to students. If you live in China, you'll learn Chinese history; if you live in Turkey, you'll learn Turkish history. This is not surprising at all. It helps students understand the background to everything they see all around them, and why things in that country are the way they are. The simple reason you are learning about the history of a specific country is that you live there.

As for myself, I agree with Rabi'ya:

I love english language...understanding how and whereand why we use certain words.

I hate....nothing in particular really...
Peace

Hello Gandalf,

You're spot on - I'm an English teacher. It's a shame you don't enjoy much of school, but if you enjoy maths that's a huge advantage. It can help you with lots of other subjects, so make sure you keep it up.

I was useless at maths at school, so I'm really jealous! ;)

That's an interesting one - teachers you like teaching subjects you don't! It's happened to me a few times - anyone else?

One of my favourite teachers ever taught Latin and Greek. He was so knowledgable and entertaining but I still couldn't get my head round those languages...

I don't really hate any subject...It sometimes depends if the teacher/professor is good. I like English but once I had this teacher whom I didn't like. Math is fun, especially algebra.

Greetings,

Although I was useless at maths at school, I can see the point of it. Without maths, there'd be no physics, no electronics, no engineering and any number of other studies. A computer is little more than an extremely fast calculator plus memory, invented using the ingenuity of mathematics.

Incidentally, as everyone knows, the numeric system we use today was invented by Arabs, including the number zero. Zero always impresses me. Try imagining a world without any zeroes. Can you imagine the sheer genius it would take to invent it? It doesn't sound like much, but I think it's an amazing invention.

Wise words comg from Callum (czgibson) there! Geniuses did invent things that now we take for granted. This laptop that I'm using for example. Such a small object with so much potential and capacity.

Incidentally, I actually enjoy doing Maths. First I was in a low class, then they moved me up one, then they moved me up another one. So I've had quite a ride, lol! My GCSE target for Maths is A but InshaAllah I hope to get an A*. I hope I'm not being too ambitious but InshaAllah I want to make my family proud and we all know that where there is a will, there is a way and an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

BETTER HAVE TONS OF CHOCOLATE CHIPS IN IT!

I don't disagree with you all that math is an important subject... But I think we ALL can agree with the fact that, even if I do take math, and get whatever grades in it... That I MOST DEFINITELY won't be making any awesome or cool discovery... Good for the people who do make great 'mathematical breakthroughs' or whatever you call them... Let them study math as much as they want, because I couldn't care less about numbers... (now I know someone else is going to reply and say how important numbers are, but I don't care...) I HATE MATH!!!!!!! The way I hate math, is the way I hate my little brothers... Pieces of vermin... I feel like ripping the hair out of my head and tackling the teacher... or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"

now those are excellent for high school students, they're pratically books for Yale and Columbia students! I feel so proud that it took me such a short time to finish it all.... Man, I must be some child prodigy....:coolsis:

A lot.

(Typical English teacher, I know.)

So many kids sit through "Shakespeare lessons" without being enabled to understand why Shakespeare is so important in English speaking countries.

He pretty much invented the language we speak today, and many people quote Shakespeare directly without realising it. Now, I know that when we read his works, they don't look or sound like modern English at all, but if you compare them to what came before, you'll get what I mean. Shakespeare has the largest vocabulary of any writer in English except James Joyce, and is responsible for introducing many new words into the language, as well as many common phrases.

Here is a partial list of words coined by Shakespeare (that is, each word first appears in a work by him):

Shakespeare coinages

And here is a piece of writing (by Bernard Levin, in the Times) which is almost entirely made up of Shakespearean phrases:

If you cannot understand my argument, and declare "It's Greek to me", you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger, if your wish is father to the thought, if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you have ever refused to budge an inch or suffered from green-eyed jealousy, if you have played fast and loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickle, if you have knitted your brows, made a virtue of necessity, insisted on fair play, slept not one wink, stood on ceremony, danced attendance (on your lord and master), laughed yourself into stitches, had short shrift, cold comfort or too much of a good thing, if you have seen better days or lived in a fool's paradise - why, be that as it may, the more fool you, for it is a foregone conclusion that you are (as good luck would have it) quoting Shakespeare; if you think it is early days and clear out bag and baggage, if you think it is high time and that that is the long and short of it, if you believe that the game is up and that truth will out even if it involves your own flesh and blood, if you lie low till the crack of doom because you suspect foul play, if you have your teeth set on edge (at one fell swoop) without rhyme or reason, then - to give the devil his due - if the truth were known (for surely you have a tongue in your head) you are quoting Shakespeare; even if you bid me good riddance and send me packing, if you wish I were dead as a door-nail, if you think I am an eyesore, a laughing stock, the devil incarnate, a stony-hearted villain, bloody-minded or a blinking idiot, then - by Jove! O Lord! Tut, tut! for goodness' sake! what the ****ens! but me no buts - it is all one to me, for you are quoting Shakespeare.
Is that amazing or what?

Peace

EDIT: Hey, that automated censorship ruins it. Pesky computer logic! The obscured word is the same as the surname of the man called Charles, who wrote Oliver Twist, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol. Although how Shakespeare knew about him I've no idea...

That's pretty cool and people still use a couple of these phrases today, although i never noticed them in his works...but then again i haven't read many of his plays.I've read only the ones in school. Reminds me of the all the plays my English teacher made us watch,he was a Kenneth Branagh fan... I suppose you would know of him.

Seriously, acting on all the feedback you get is the way to improvement. And improvement is the way to straight A's. And straight A's are the way to good job prospects. And good job prospects are the way to good money. And good money is the way to... whatever the heck you decide to spend it on. :p

Who wants to be the richest man in the world when we already have Allah(saw)? Secondly, the Prohpet Muhammed (saw) has strongly emphasized that all muslims should be as humble as they can. Meaning they shouldn't flaunt all that they have. Just a side note.

lol most of it never never interested me and most of it was propaganda so you dont know what to believe. most of the leaders aren't even good role models, to be honest, on my opinion - if a person is a good leader they should fight along with their country or nation but none of the leaders did this (referring to WW1 + 2 etc.), what is power if one cant fight themselves and sends troops, doesn't that show a sign of weakness?

peace.

its not " Oh where art thou" its "Wherefore art thou" and Juliets plaintive

“O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?”

had nothing to do with Romeo's location. "Wherefore" means "why", not "where"-------->

(in both senses “how come?” and “for that reason.”)

she was asking why the fates had made Romeo part of the Montague family, with which the Capulets ( her family ) were locked in deadly feud. :thumbs_up

furthermore i dont think its a good idea to address brothers in such a manner.

Greetings,

Here's one of my favourite speeches in Shakespeare; Hamlet trapped in the mire of adolescent depression, talking to his student friends (note the use of "wherefore" in the first line):

o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted
with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to
me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours.
What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason!
how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how
express and admirable! in action how like an angel!
in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the
world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me,
what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not
me: no, nor woman neither, though by your smiling
you seem to say so.
P.S. People, people, people - let's remember that Shakespeare did not write in Old English. Old English (= Anglo-Saxon) fell out of use more than a century before Shakespeare was born. Shakespeare's way of using English is simply known as Shakespearean English.

"Shakespeare" spelled his name in many ways his fathers papers showed about 16 different spellings but the most common are Shakespeare, Shaxpere, and Shakespeare .

The funny thing is that they were not miss-spelt Shakespeare's name was spelled in many different ways during the Renaissance including most extreme i.e

"Shagspere", "Shexpere" and "Shaxberd"

Shakespeare himself spelled his name "Shakspere" or "Shakspeare", This was because "Elizabethan spelling" was very erratic by twentieth-century standards and at that time even the simpliest proper names were spelt differently. then some time into the 20th Century modern fixed spelling of ("Shakespeare") was considered to be the only correct way.

Another interesting fact is that Shakespeare invented many words, that we use today in eveyday life and one that is famously known is the word "assassination". ----> here are more words http://shakespeare.about.com/library.../aa042400a.htm

Greetings,

Sheikh Spear ;D

Brilliant!

3washey makes a good point about how Shakespeare and others used to spell his name - there were no fixed spellings for any English words, not only proper names. Eventually people decided there needed to be a standard spelling system if everyone was to understand each other, so dictionaries started to appear. Dr. Johnson's Dictionary (1755) is the most famous of the early dictionaries.

Akhee,

I, for one, don't diss slang. It's a huge part of English, and it's always the part of any language that changes the fastest. Some people find it the most interesting part of English, and enormous dictionaries of slang have been produced. Of course, they go out of date very quickly.

Also, there's a great deal of slang in Shakespeare. There's always a contrast between the language used by kings and nobles and that of ordinary people in his works. In fact, slang is one of the things that can make Shakespeare quite hard to understand, because slang always dates so quickly.

I think this is the main reason why people sometimes complain about slang in general - it can be difficult to understand or even read. There's nothing wrong with having an individual approach to language (that's frequently a mark of a good writer), but it can make it hard to know what is being said.

Peace

At the moment, I'm not attending school, so Alhamdulilah, I get to learn whatever subject I want to explore. However, I do have to say that history is incredible interersting subject compared to math. For me, Math and Science is like learning chinese and of course thats an extremely difficult thing. English wasn't so bad either. Liking or disliking a subject for me really depends on the person who is teaching it. I remember in grade ten I hated history because of my really racist history teacher but adored science because of my hilarious sicence teacher. But now that I am my own teacher, I have to say that 'school' is the best.

I guess Canadians or Americans would know of an institution called Al Maghrib. Well, I just took a course on Usool Al Fiqh and inshallah, I'll be preparing myself for the next course in November called CONQUEST. History of the Khulafaa. Anyone who's intersting in learning their deen, at home, should register for these courses. They're Amazing!

Yes, true I've learned quite a lot from the Al-Maghrib Institute. I'd say its better than any subject I've ever taken. I wanted to take Conquest but they don't offer it where I live (or maybe they did but I missed it). You heard right about LOG and Sheikh Yasir Qadhi is a great instructor and very knowledgable mashaAllah. You can hear more of his lectures at this website...I'm assuming you know the website. I know that they are offering more Aqeedah courses (Aqeedah 101,105 etc) in the future so one would have to take LOG as a pre-requisite. I'm assuming that you are in Qabeelat Ansar...or are there more in Toronto. I'm in Qabeelat Durbah btw. You know, you can check out the newsletter that Durbah made for the LOG class, that might give you an idea about what to expect in the course. um...ok now back on topic.

I like math i have an A in it by the way. It's easy to me  .I like math class because there is either a right or wrong answer not like reading or english. History is my favorite subject becauseit talks about the past. Some people say that the past is the past but let me tell ya something. What goes around comes around so remember Hitler 50 years ago? What reminds you of a leader liek that today?..yeah, my point being... LOL.

Greetings,

Re: History:

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

George Santayana (Spanish philosopher)

I think this is the most important reason for learning any nation's history; to learn from the mistakes made by others in the past so that we don't repeat them in the future. It's because the future is so important that we need to know about the past.

Peace

I guess my best subjects at GCSE were R.E. because it was sooo easy, in fact most of the year got A* in it, and also Manufacturing, because it was alot of practical work
