Salaam.

So here's where you ask questions about the language, the people, why we love chappatis, and like to show off. And whatever else is on your mind regarding Gujarati's and their language.

I don't know if it's alipawr:rollseyes, but i have a friend, if it wasn't for his manly voice box, it can get pretty hard to distinguish him from a male to a female. The Gujarati he speaks is totally one sided and somtimes speaks as if his a girl. (Ok i went a little far then, but it's so true, it's all the same)

Masculine and feminine is out of the window for some gujis.;D

I think served as a dish, it's called what Sanobar says it is. But we get them in blocks, and it's called khamman. And I'm sure khamman is steamed and made from besan too.

Ooh Zak, go out and buy some for lunch. Eat some for me too.

That shop too sells it's own homemade Khaman. Hehe. But it's some miles away, so we only get it the odd times in a fort-year.

Can we move onto paterya now? Does anyone know what they are? Not that nice, but they're made from big and I mean huge leaves, filled with some yellow gooey looking stuff, sliced into rolls, and then shallow fried.

What about cutlets?

I used to have kitchree n karee, but what is this other thing, tarkaaree? I can't stand it no more. There's also a variation of it called barkee I think, something like that anyway.

What about the small tiny samosa's we have? I don't know if it's a whole way Gujarati thing, but everyone around here loves our small somasa's. Oddly I like the big Pakistani ones instead.
tarkaaree is also known as hannu? Known as curry in english. erm... it's those dishes eaten with roti and rice..

mum makes barkee once in a blue moon. it's made with rice but you do something to it to make it all runny.. (sorry, i don't know)it is such an old dish that when it is made we all love it so much its gone in a second.:giggling:

Or you could just say 'tu hu karey?' which could be to any gender. 'tamu' instead of 'tu' would then be plural.

Tell them to read the qur'aan and it gets problematic.
jaalika................instead of dhaalika and then some. ;)

And in the arabic alphabet there's like three or four 'ja' sounding letters.

.........and is it seen or sheen? Can't tell ;)

I don’t know how to put this but……, I’ve just recently moved to the north of England (Preston, Blackburn) from London. I was totally bewildered the way the Guji neighbourhood are so keen in your personal affairs, and those ludicrous remarks they make, and on top of that the amount of backbiting is terrible. Can’t they just mind their own wits?

The disturbing fact is none of them are related to us and they wanna know everything about you, or spread gossip around, and it’s mainly the oldies, or those with their ‘over’ guji speaking style (giving a lot of emphasis to the guji accent.) :?

I dunno what brought this up, but it just boils my blood. :)

IF you meet a man called MUFTI AYUB PATEL in preseton, tell him ZUBAIR from NEWZEALAND said salaam..
...im his nephew :okay:

Mate,believe me,its not a 'blackburn/preston guji' thing,gujis all over the world do it.Gujis,pakis,europeans,somalians,somoans,tongans ,fijians,....

Its human nature. One we have to learn to control, but alot of people give into it.sadly.

I am proud of myself for the fact that i dont get caught up in it,but yeah,i've witnessed so many gujjis doing it,it makes my blood boil too.

the best thing you can do is to keep on reminding them of the hereafter, that they cant achieve it until they learn to control their tongues.
