Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on Saturday appealed to the international community and the Arab leaders to exert pressure on Israel to end its military escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Following his meeting with Arab and foreign diplomats at his office in Gaza City, Hamas leader told reporters;

"There has been a comprehensive escalation against the Palestinians, aimed at forcing the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cabinet to kneel,"

"The Palestinian people are great, and would never kneel except for Allah".

Earlier, Israeli F-16 warplanes bombed several areas in the Gaza Strip, inflicting damages with varying extents to a number of buildings, Palestinian security sources said.

The Israeli government claimed that Saturday bombardment and artillery bombings came as a retaliation of an earlier Palestinian rocket attacks in Gaza.

According to witnesses, Israeli warplanes fired a rocket at a hotel under construction in the northern Gaza Strip, seriously damaging it.

Another two missiles were fired at the Palestine Sports Stadium in Gaza City, Palestinian security sources said, adding that the attack caused severe damage to the stadium and nearby houses.

Last night, members of the Popular Resistance Committees survived an Israeli missile strike while, according to a leaflet from the group, trying to launch a homemade rockets into Israel.

The leaflet added that the group’s planned attack on Israel was in response to the killing of Khalil al-Guga, Popular Resistance Committees leader in Gaza City same day.

Yesterday, fierce riots erupted in Gaza protesting the killing of al-Guga in Gaza.

Hamas leader called for launching investigation into the mysterious car explosion that killed al-Guga.

"It is so important to apply to the law instead of trading accusations," Haneya said, announcing the formation of a panel responsible for the investigation.

"What happened in Gaza yesterday is considered a very dangerous incident, and we must not allow the repetition of such a situation," Haneya said.

The circumstances of his death were unclear. It was initially blamed on an Israeli missile, but a spokesman for the Committees later blamed Palestinian security units.
