This is a letter to the editor of Arab News

www.arabnews.com

This is in reference to the article Storm Over Iraq Mosque Raid, (March 28). America is growing tired of betrayals by those with influence among the Iraqi and Arab peoples. The raid on Sunday was carried out by Iraqi forces with Americans also risking their lives while providing backup. Those killed were armed and violent kidnappers.

No one interested in peace and a better life for the Iraqi people should be upset. Yet we are betrayed by lies and made an object of hatred. We have sacrificed thousands of our finest young men to bring freedom to the Iraqi people.

Every man, woman and child in the United Sates has lost well over a thousand dollars out of their pockets. Many in the US are not rich and this is a great hardship to them.

Islam is not a religion of hatred, yet the people allow themselves to be led by people who preach hate. Some Arab media outlets support them. Agreed there are such media outlets in the US too, but the need of the hour is to bring peace to Iraq and let the Iraqi people enjoy freedom.

The Americans will leave soon. If there is not a strong Iraqi government then the Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites could well become involved in a civil war that would spread throughout the region. This would not hurt America, but many Muslims would die at the hands of other Muslims.

Life is a precious gift from the Creator. Those who claim to know the mind of the Almighty and instruct others to kill are agents of evil seeking to destroy the work of the Creator.

I agree. It is a real shame that excess pride and manipulation of the masses by religious elites are preventing millions of decent Iraqis from rebuilding their country. THE USA and UK WILL LEAVE AS SOON AS THERE IS STABILITY, (AND WANT TO LEAVE EVEN SOONER). It is like this: the people who most publicly spew anti-western hatred and most loudly call for them to leave really want them to stay! Why else would they be wreaking havoc upon their own (or their co-religionist's) country? Pretty simple! The longer this idiocy persists, the longer we are staying. This is not neuro-surgery!

Greetings and peace to you all,

People with guns can try and act as policemen and keep people apart, but I do not think this is the way to build peace.

I honestly feel that people of opposing factions need to be brought together in a spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness and it needs a breed of peace makers for this work.

Here is an article from Ekklesia

Peacenik’ initiative will fund peacemakers to enter hotspots including Iraq -03/04/06

A new business venture launches today (Monday) to fund the trips of peacemakers to conflict zones around the world, including Iraq.

The venture comes in the form of a new Internet Service Provider (ISP) – Peacenik.co.uk - set up to raise money for groups like Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) of which released Iraq hostage Norman Kember is a member.

The initiative comes from the thinktank Ekklesia which works in partnership with a number of peace groups in the UK, including Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT). It is being launched in conjunction with Premier Radio who are to run a ten week radio advertising campaign to promote the venture.

Jonathan Bartley, Ekklesia’s director said; “the peace movement is notoriously under-resourced. Whilst there are university departments set up to study military strategy, government departments dedicated to supporting military solutions, and whole industries geared up to the development of weapons, there is relatively very little to develop and support nonviolent initiatives. The venture is to help give peace a chance”.

“Although it did not often come up in the recent reporting about the release of the Christian Peacemakers in Iraq, such peacemakers have shown how they can work alongside Muslims, and facilitate reconciliation between religious factions in Iraq in a way that the US and UK military are simply unable to do. As Iraq has looked as if it may descend into civil war they have provided a ray of hope in an otherwise dark situation. Although many would seek to write them off those committed to non-violence deserve a proper chance to show what they can do.”

Welcoming the initiative Tim Nafziger of Christian Peacemaker Teams in the UK said; “The Peacenik fund could be a important source of support for Christian Peacemaker Team members who need help to cover travel costs to CPT projects around the world.”

The ISP will be run on a not-for-profit basis. The proceeds will be put into a fund to which peace groups are invited to make applications, regardless of their religious beliefs. This will leave the way open for, amongst others, Muslim Peacemaker Teams, which Christian peacemakers have helped to establish in Iraq, to apply for funding. Those of no faith will also be invited to seek funding.

The thinktank Ekklesia has already donated £1,000 to get the fund going, but hopes that it will generate significant resources for the peace movement. The thintank already has a track record of generating significant funding using the internet. Last year the thinktank raised £130,000 for development work through its own web site.

The money raised by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) Peacenik.co.uk is expected to fund a range of projects including peacemaking trips to conflict zones, training for Christian peacemakers, and research into non-violent alternatives to conflict.
In the spirit of seeking peace and reconciliation

I believe this will happen..There are a few countries in the M.E. who wish to take control of Iraq..

Indeed they are doing the work of Satan.

"Christain Peacemaker Teams" are a bad idea in Iraq.

There are a lot of Muslims who rememeber the Crusades of 1,000 years ago and blame them on current Christains.

Christians need to apoligize for what happened,
I believe these internal problems needs to be sorted out by themselves without outside influence for once!
