Muslim Aid allocated an initial $100,000 to aid survivors of Indonesia’s devastating earthquake, Reuters reported.
The death toll in the 6.7 magnitude earthquake which struck Saturday near the city of Yogyakarta has reached at least 5,427.
Muslim Aid's Field Office Director in Indonesia, Fadlullah Wilmot, plans to provide full support for more than 500 families, including shelter, food, medicine and counseling.
Yogyakarta is near Mount Merapi volcano which has been smouldering for days.
The Indonesian Red Cross and other national emergency organizations have prepared emergency facilities in anticipation of the volcano eruption but these are now being used to aid the victims of the earthquake.
"We are all saddened by the news," said Farooq Murad, chairman of Muslim Aid.
"Donors have responded generously towards the relief fund. However, much more needs to be done to care for the agonised and traumatised survivors of the earthquake."
Muslim Aid was among the first aid organizations to complete relief projects in all countries affected by the Dec. 2004 deadly tsunami.
